During the late 20's in Harlem, Lindy Hop was breaking out everywhere people were partying. At the same time, many large dance halls sprang up across the USA, hiring a similarly huge number of traveling big bands. However, the center of this creative magic was at Harlem's Savoy Ballroom on Lenox Avenue and 140th Street, where the Savoy Lindy Hoppers, including the likes of "Shorty" George Snowden, and Frankie Manning would create the dance that we celebrate today.

On Oct 9, 2004 we invite you to join us and be a part of this one of a kind reunion of the Count's music with the dance, just like it was "back in the day". This extraordinary evening will perhaps be the greatest dancing celebration of the music and the dance for our generation.

Hellzapoppin'
There's no better way to showcase the energy of Lindy Hop than this modern jam contest that places the focus on the unique spirit and energy that defines Lindy Hop. Since 2002, Hellzapoppin' has been held as a part of the Harlem Jazz Dance Festival that celebrates all forms of American vernacular jazz dancing. This year, the Hellzapoppin' US Nationals will take place on Oct 8-9th, 2004 with the finals held during the Basie Centennial Ball. In addition, the final six couples will battle to live music provided by Frank Foster and his amazing ensemble of musicians. The two Hellzapoppin' champions will be picked by a panel of six former Harvest Moon Ball Champions.

This year's Hellzapoppin' Contest Winners are:

Min Vo & Corina Acosta (LA)

And the finalists are:

Owen Donnelley & Laura
Sakarias Larsson & Frida Segerdahl
Mattias Lundmark & Hanna Zetterman
Andy Reid & Nina Gilkenson
Andrew Sutton & Laura Keat

Note: The Hellzapoppin' World Championships was held on November 29, 2004 in Melbourne Australia. Please click here to find out more.
