While looking for the oldest known depictions of charleston dancing on film, I came across several gems from the 1920s archived at the Huntley Archives in the UK.
Check out this video that starts with a dance marathon, then shows what looks like female dancers at an audition, and closes with several dancers charlestoning.
Here's a fun clip of three women hanging out on a beach, one of whom starts to charleston, her friends soon joining in.
But this is the piece de la resistance: Josephine Baker just killing this "Plantation Dance" routine with a three piece band. Shoot.
