We're delighted to share with you this performance by the team "HellaBlackLindyHop" at the International Swing Dance Championships in Houston, Texas last weekend. As we shared in April, the goal of HellaBlackLindyHop is to "showcase Lindy Hop done by black dancers to a mostly Black/POC audience".
The International Swing Dance Championships is an annual meet-up and competition for the urban ballroom dances popular in African-American communities today, including Houston Two-Step, Dallas/Fort Worth Swingout, Chicago Steppin’ and Detroit Ballroom. Lindy Hop has never had a major presence at the event until this year.
Here's their performance:
Dancers: Joshua McLean, Latasha Barnes, Sara Deckard, Manu Smith, Ana Lisa Sutherland, AJ Howard, Cyle Dixon Jr., and Alexis Davila.
Dig those costumes? They were designed by Dru Christine Fabrics & Design. More pics of those designs.
