We were thrilled to see that while Montreal Swing Riot is still on an extended break, the “vintage versus modern street dance battle” is going to happen this year! The organizers just announced the dates of this year’s battle: July 26 at a “block party” expected to have 10k-15k in attendance!

Who do you want to see throw down at this battle?

Other Stuff We Liked This Week:

  • It’s still #FrankieMonth, and the videos and pictures from celebrations around the world are awesome to see. There’s also lots of wonderful throwback videos being shared on social media. We particularly liked this one of Frankie Manning dancing in the 1980s in NYC.

  • We honestly haven’t listened to it yet, but we are eager to check out the latest interview on “The Track” with one of our favorite dancers Nick Williams of LA. Give it a listen.

  • The Herrang Dance Camp has been producing more videos about the camp experience, including this lovely profile of Helena Martins of Brazil. We love her DJing and her love of lindy hop.

  • We are adding to our shopping list this new graphic novel Blues for Lady Day: The Story of Billie Holiday . From the creator of the graphic novel on the artist Jean-Michel Basquiat, Blues for Lady Day tells the story of this incredible artist and her troubled life that fed into her remarkable singing.
