If you're unfamiliar with Ray, he was in many 30's and 40's jitterbug movies and shorts, including: Blondie Meets the Boss, Mad Youth, Georgie Porgie, Buck Privates, and Ride Em Cowboy. He also appeared in strike up the band with Mickey Rooney and Judy Garland. Click here to see a photo of Ray dancing with Judy Garland.
The interview is a brief 6 minutes, and the video also includes some "best of" clips of Ray singing and dancing with his partner Patti Lacey (pictured above).

Ray Hirsch is my all time favorite dancer. I met him at the 2nd annual Cal Balboa Championship in 2002 (2001?) and he was so very kind to me and my partner at the time. His style of dancing (and his partner Patty's) is so unique and wacky, he's the epitome of the word "jitterbug."

Many thanks for the documentation of this wonderful dancer! That was a great interview…I love hearing stories like that from the old timers, those stories really paint a fuller picture for me of the origins of swing dancing. Good work!

I like it.
An afterthought.
I think the interview was too short, I could have listened to him for an hour. Very interesting man.
I hope I look half as good if I manage to live as long as Mr. Hirsch.

I want to check it out when I get home this evening.
By the way, I checked out "Mystic Pizza" and Arthur "King Cat" Walsh I would have never thought as the old pizza chef.
Not everyone aged as gracefully as Frankie Manning.
