Hi, I have been trying to find out if there is any Lindy Hop in Raleigh the week of March 15-21, 2010. I have not been successful at finding anything. I found west coast, but not lindy. Anyone know of anything in Raleigh? Thanks.

Thanks, but I went to that dance last time I was there. Sadly, there were no lindy hoppers & I was told by the west coasters that LH never go to those dances. Any other suggestions?

There is a forum (www.heckzapoppin.com) but it doesn't appear to be used to much anymore...

It's been a few (ok, goin' on 5) years since I lived near there, but I recall that dances at the Carrboro Century Center and the Durham Armory were good for lindy. I think I remember having fun dancing to the band that is playing at the Armory when you will be there. I never saw a single WCS dancer at either of those venues! It's possible things have changed, but I doubt they have changed that much, especially since both Solomon's Swingtet and the Boilermakers are on the schedule, and you can't get more swingin' than either of those.

There used to be a weekly dance that was only lindy and balboa, but I've heard that it is now defunct.

Solomon Douglas and the Boilermakers certainly aren't west coast swing. Mighty Lester is a lindy worthy jump blues w/ a lot of horns. Meanwhile, last month's Bull City Stompede weekend featured instructors Nina Gilkenson, Andy Reid, Jaya Dorf, and Michael Gamble as well as Russ Wilson's Swingtet. Plus, Raleigh/Durham has a huge stable of solid lindy/bal DJ's, instructors and musicians. The Lindy Hoppers are there but they dance in the front half of the armory.

You might contact TSDS organizer Laura Windley at caab241@hotmail.com if you have specific questions.

I'll consider giving it another shot, but last year when I went I'm pretty sure it was also Mighty Lester at The Armory. There were no Lindy Hoppers & I was told by the dancers there that the Lindy Hoppers don't come out for him. It was sad since I had to drive an hour to get to Durham to not lindy. Later on I managed to get in touch w/ Raleigh Rob who confirmed it, then was nice enough to call a few peeps out to go to a weekly dance that was split mix swing, then west coast for the last hour of the night. I couldn't get a hold of him this time to check. If anyone knows anyone who regularly Lindy-s in Raleigh. please point them in my direction. Thanks for the help.
