Dance Lesson at 6:30, Live Music at 7:30
Which coast swings harder? Jazz musicians ceded East Coast/West Coast squabbles to hip-hoppers some time ago, but Midsummer Night Swing’s season kickoff is a high-octane rematch that proves old feuds die hard. Ten years ago on a hugely successful tour, hometown Count Basie disciple George Gee and hot L.A. pianist Bill Elliott put the question to the most discerning audiences of all: dancers. The gauntlet has been thrown down once again. Come decide who gets bragging rights.

Just a reminder that if you enjoyed last night (especially in the free area) and are looking forward to more Midsummer Night Swing you should consider showing your love & texting 'LCGIVE' to 20222 to make a $5 donation to LCSwings.
In talking with the organizers last night, it came up that a lot of the investments and changes the past couple of years have been to improve the experience for the folks that aren't paying to be on the dance floor - better sound, better sightlines, better vending.
They appreciate the support and are trying their best to give the best experience for everyone that attends, both on the dance floor and off. I think it shows this year more than ever, so please think about donating!

...and Bill Cunningham of the New York Times included a bunch of us in his opening night coverage as well, which is in today's (July 4) paper. He shot both inside and outside the enclosure, and you'll recognize a lot of yehoodi-ites for sure.
Thanks for this information, Swifty. Just texted my donation in... I've been out twice now and have enjoyed both evenings. (The New Orleans Moonshiners were great last night in spite of the heat!) Both times I've been in the free section, but maybe I'll make it onto the dance floor next time.

This music is not too fast; you're just too damn slow.
A really really amazing night with two of my favorite big bands in the country, on stage together. The summer swing season is off to a great start!
