Hey folks, I'm trying to make a list of all all major lindy weekends that are within easy, cheap transit distance (MTA/mega/china/bolt bus/last resort, greyhound) (not amtrak -- too expensive) of NYC.

My current list is below. Please help: - Add any exchanges I'm missing - Add any scenes that I didn't know are easy to get to from NYC for cheap - Add any workshop weekends that include a lot of social dancing. These are harder to find online because they're less likely to be listed on lindyexchange.com and they're not annual. - Add any blues weekends that I'm missing. I'm a blues fiend

If someone has already made a list like this, please let me know... thanks for that too.

Obviously this undertaking will help not just me but other Yehoodites as well... so please contribute if you know stuff.

=====================

Listed in roughly North-South order: TORONTO (Megabus) Toronto Lindy Exchange - Oct 8-10 [confirmed] (I really would like to know about more stuff in Toronto... do they have a blues weekend??)

BOSTON Boston Fusion - Jan 7-9 [confirmed] Sweet Molasses 3 - late Feb(?) - is this even annual? Boston Tea Party - March BIX - late May '11(?)

ROCHESTER (I think Megabus or Bolt Bus goes there) -Steven & Virginie workshop in November -Stompology sometime in the Summer -Northeast Girl Jam (maybe... it hasn't been an annual thing) -Monthly dances hosted by GrooveJuiceSwing (groovejuiceswing.com)

CONNECTICUT (MTA) CTLX - June 2011(?)

PHILLY Hot Mess - July 9-11, 2010 (fast) Blues Muse - Oct 22-24 [quasi-confirmed] (This is listed on the LAB calendar for October 2010, but the Blues Muse web site hasn't been updated yet.) Philly Lindy Love - June '11(?)

PITTSBURGH (Megabus/Gotobus) Pitt Stop Lindy Hop - November 19-21 [confirmed] Steel City Blues - March 11-13 [confirmed]

DC/BALTIMORE Bambloozled (Capitol Blues) - Dec 3-5 [confirmed] DCLX - April '11 (?) ILHC

VIRGINIA BEACH AREA (Apparently there's a $60 RT chinese bus.) VBLX Jammin' on the James

Any other locales? (Swing Out New Hampshire, maybe? Is there cheap transit to New Hampshire?)

======================

(Explanation of why I need this: I have a job this year that wants me to come out on six weekends throughout the school year -- and I can determine the weekends myself. But I have to give them a list, soon. I don't want to screw up and commit myself to working on a weekend when there's something awesome going on that I could otherwise go to.)

THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO CAN HELP!

Love, Yakov

Boston Teaparty end of March

ILHC in DC probably does not fall within your school year (late August) but it's a must do...same with Swing Out New Hampshire, early September.

This music is not too fast; you're just too damn slow.

Rochester, NY: (yes, it's far, but the events are worth it) -Steven & Virginie workshop in November -Stompology sometime in the Summer -Northeast Girl Jam (maybe... it hasn't been an annual thing) -Monthly dances hosted by GrooveJuiceSwing (groovejuiceswing.com)

It's a super friendly scene-- very into social dancing. Check it out.

Not all strange men in the forest are Prince Charmings, no matter how well they dance.

Response to Quantum Swing Kitten in post #3 Show

As someone who has been to both the Steven & Virginie workshop and Northeast Girl Jam. You should go, both events are fun. Not to mention the awesomeness of Rachacha in general and the Lindy Compound.

norfolk/virginia beach area is indeed pretty cheap & easy to get to from NYC by chinatown bus ($60 round trip). not sure how much we'll have going on during the school year events-wise (VBLX just passed), but there's a fairly-reliably-lively dance every thursday night in norfolk plus saturday nights most weekends that COULD be lively if we knew people were coming in.

also check out jammin' on the james in richmond in october! dates on the website are still last year's, though.

Hey, I changed the title of the thread, making it more accessible to people who aren't me, and I incorporated your suggestions into the OP. Thanks a lot folks.

Baltimore is throwing an exchange this year... October 15-17. Should be a reasonable trek from NY? About 3.5 hours? Can't tell you about the mass transit options....
