The world class lindy hop instructors, Alice Mei and Thomas Blacharz, are finally coming to Big Apple to teach two-day intermediate/advanced Lindy Hop intensives during this Labor Day weekend!! Don't miss this rare opportunity to learn from these two extraordinary dancers with unique musical styling and superb techniques. The weekend will also feature dance parties with gypsy/hot jazz bands (an exciting line up is in the works - you will not be disappointed!). It is hard to believe but the weekend is a bit over a month away and the early discount tickets will not last too long. I recommend to book your ticket now than later.
Additionally, we are thrilled to announce the fantastic band line ups for the Gypsy Jam weekend!!!
On Friday September 3rd , we will open the weekend with one and only LOWER EAST SIDE HOT CLUB!! Be ready to be blown away with their intensely beautiful gypsy jazz music.
On Saturday September 4th let GRAND ST. STOMPERS take you to the streets of New Orleans! (hosted by Swing Remix). The band leader, Gordon Au, says they may throw some Django tunes for us!!
On Sunday September 5th, our final dance party will feature one of our favorites, the Baby Soda Jazz Band!! (hosted by Avalon Jazz Productions). Their tight swinging music will keep your feet tapping. Strictly Lindy competition is planned! More info coming soon!

A few dancers came up to me and asked a few questions that may be relevant to others who are interested in the workshops so I thought that I'd share my answers with you all:
Is the weekend/workshops all about fast dancing?
No. Dancing at fast tempo per se is not the focus of the workshops but I am sure that the techniques that Alice and Thomas will teach are applicable to any tempos. Also they will be teaching some musical styling, rhythm, and footwork classes and I doubt that they will be teaching these materials with really fast songs...
As far as the bands are concerned, particularly Grand St Stompers and Baby Soda Jazz Band play a wide range of tempos. LES Hot Club plays songs that are a bit more faster side but they do also play even slow to mid tempo songs. I may request to mix more songs with mid tempo.
Is a day pass available?
Yes, the day pass and individual classes pricing will be available to purchase later this month.

Hi guys, just warmly wanted to remind you that the early bird ends in TWO days - Many of your friends have already registered... I will have to cap it at some point so if you are serious about taking the workshop, I'd recommend you to do so now.
I've been talking to folks who have taken their classes recently, and I hear over and over how great they are, and how they have a very unique way of teaching techniques that work for everyone! I personally can't wait to take their classes. Hope you guys join the fun.
The dance only ticket is also available (separate from the workshops). Only $40 for 3 nights of dancing to phenomenal live bands (hosted by Swing Remix and Avalon Jazz Productions). Take advantage of this great deal as well.

He didn't have room in his luggage for his two massive ILHC trophies so we jammed them in our car, knowing that we'd see Alice and Thomas at the workshops when he can retreive them. And I'm looking at them right now...

And word on the evening dances. All of the organizers were so kind as to offer dance passes as a prize in this Saturday's dance comp at YSBD! and it makes me wish I could disguise myself, enter, bribe the judges somehow, and win.

Alice and Thomas were fantastic! We also had a fabulous time with Oliv et al and Alice and Thomas leading the I charleston NY project yesterday - thanks all for coming out. Alice and Thomas will be back next week prior to the Gypsy Jam Wkend.

"I need 2 volunteers to work the door for two hours (alternating 9 - 1 am) each. I can pay you in a private lesson, lead or follow and obviously free entry to the show!"

Wow...today's classes were absolutely amazing...lessons on essential technique that were wildly valuable and very challenging. The way we addressed and worked on connection represents a very current and up-to-date way of looking at Lindy Hop. Top notch...the sort of thing we travel to get...
