SAVOY NIGHT AT DOC'S PLACE ~ hosted by Savoy Hop Cats!
This is an ALL AGES EVENT!
A new chapter in the history of the Phoenix swing scene is officially underway with the opening of our new Monday night weekly venue location, Savoy Night at Doc's Place! The vision of the organizers/hosts Nathaniel (a.k.a. ~ DJ-ango) and Elizabeth Smalley is to see the concept and energy of the Harlem Savoy Ballroom alive and experienced by all who attend any Savoy Hop Cats event. (DJ-ango & Elizabeth met while swing dancing in Phoenix in August of 2007 and have danced together all over Phoenix ever since. They were engaged in February of 2008, and happily married on May 23rd, 2010!)
Savoy Night at Doc's Place has the unique distinction of providing a well priced menu of delicious food at an all ages event, which will also provide a full bar for those 21+ (with ID). Doc's Place is currently under major remodel for opening night and located in the Phoenix Uptown Plaza, just a 'Swing' and a 'Hop' from the Central & Camelback Light Rail Station (Light Rail Rider's Discount available). Doc's Place boasts a professional chef and wait staff, a full bar (with ID) and unbeatable atmosphere! A night at Doc's Place is like stepping back in time. Admission to this completely unique and unforgettable swing dance experience is only $8.00!
In the tradition of the 'Harlem Savoy Ballroom' of old, (opened December 14th, 1926 & closed in 1958), we welcome dancers (and non-dancers!) from all circles and promise you an evening like none other at Phoenix's Best Music and Supper Club. You need no experience or partner to participate in our events, in fact we welcome and encourage new dancers!
Happy Hour Specials 4:00pm - 7:00pm
Swing Dance Lesson 7:00pm - 8:00pm.
Dance while DJ-ango mixes the best swing tunes or to a Live Band from 8:00pm - 11:00pm.
