Some helpful info on the competition:

The format will be Strictly Lindy Hop. You must enter the competition with a partner and dance with that partner throughout the competition. To register in advance, please email heather dot flock at gmail.com with your name and the name of your partner. The cut-off for email registration is Friday, August 27th at 5 pm. In-person registration may be done by 8 pm on the day of the dance. All competitors must have paid entry to the dance.

All registered couples are required to be at a competitor's meeting at 8:30 pm. Prelims, to DJd music will take place @ 9 pm.

The finals will be held during the 2nd band break (exact timing to be announced at the competitor's meeting) and will be danced live to the music of the inimitable George Gee and will be done in a jam format. Each couple will go in for a phrase 12 or 16 8s and clear the floor for the next couple, for two rounds. More details on this will be announced at the competitor's meeting, but if you've never danced a phrase, this will give you plenty of time to practice.

p>Judging will be based on partnership, musicality and showmanship. Air steps are allowed (though cautioned during the prelims) and will be judged on their musicality and execution.

We're just about two weeks away from the big event and I am thrilled to announce our incredible line-up of judges!

First on the list is no stranger to competition (she's been known to race her own children for the last popsicle!) experienced dancer, teacher, choreographer and judge, the one, the only, Ms. Carol Fraser!

Next up: he's been dancing the Lindy Hop for about 3 billion years and has seen it all. He survived the great Savoy vs Hollywood battle of the late 90s to emerge as valued event organizer and studio owner. He still wears his Bleyers and still takes Frankie's class weekly. He's our very own YSBD!Charlie.

Last, but certainly not least, I am extremely proud to announce that SavoyStyle's own, and she really needs no introduction, Ms. Judy Pritchett will be rounding out the team of judges.

I feel a little of the David Jacoby in me itching to get out. Can I get a woo!? :-)

Most of the timing listed above will stay as is, though it's looking more like the finals will take place at the top of the last band break @11pm.

p>Look for the next announcement to detail some of the juicy prizes to be had by the winners and runners up!

After a VERY exiting weekend of dance competitions at ILHC, I am really looking forward to seeing what our own New Yorkers will bring to the table for this comp!

Just remember, you do not need to be an international champion to enter this contest! There are some great prizes to be had, and valuable competition experience to be gained. The focus will be on fun. :-)
