I am very excited to announce that I will be teaching a performance class at You Should Be Dancing! on Wednesdays at 9 pm starting on September 1st and running through October 20th. I was toying around with teaching a routine from Mermaids past, but right now the thing that seems most fun is to create an entirely new routine for your learning and my teaching pleasure, and should the stars align properly, get us a nice roster of performance opportunities in the NYC area in the following month (including the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade- no kidding!) This class is a teaser for a possible performance group to form, so if you've been interested in such a thing, now is your opportunity!
As with all my routines, the emphasis is on musicality, lead and followability, formations and pizazz. I can't promise there will be spirit fingers this time around, but I can promise we will have ourselves a good time.
The monthly class fee is $65 and the class will run two months. The studio has great discounts when you take more than one class at a time, and I cannot more highly recommend Laura's 7pm and 8 pm classes on the same night.
We're also adding an Intro to Lindy Hop class at 7 pm on Wednesdays starting Sept 1, in case you're lurking and wanting learn, have friends interested in dancing, or are just tired of making it up as you go and want to get your chops in shape.

A couple folks have asked some questions about the routine class, so will answer them here in the event that others have the same questions.
What style will the routine be?
Straight up Lindy Hop at a moderately fast tempo, around 185 bpm.
What's the level of this routine class?
This is a class geared to advanced students. This does not mean that you need to think of yourself as an advanced dancer, or that you're some kind of rockstar, know how to throw air etc... You absolutely need to be familiar with core lindy hop figures, and if you're a quick study (pick up choreography easily) you should have no problem. Any air that goes into the routine will be taught and no one will be required to do anything they don't feel absolutely comfortable with.
Do I need to bring a partner?
While a partner is not required, please do bring one if you can. Again, you don't have to be ready to take on the stage at Carnegie Hall (or Broadway, or ILHC) you just need to be ready to work. For the lady leaders and gentleman follows: we're not going to rely on a lot of heavy lifting in this routine, so don't stay home because you don't think you can throw or catch air.
Are you really trying to get us into the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade?
The answer is yes, but we're too late for this year. If things go well, we create a group, we work like the dickens, we might go next year. Regardless, there are several performances planned depending on how things go and everyone's availability in late October and November. If you don't want to perform, you are still more than welcome to come and learn and work.

This class starts on Wednesday, September 1st. If there are any folks out there heading to SONH or other fun Labor Day weekend pursuits, we've already been talking about a make-up session to take place on Wednesday the 8th at 8 pm. PM me if you are interested! We have a nice handful of students signed up already- I am getting quite excited to teach the routine! :-)

I think I have nicknamed the routine "fred and ginger." It's benny goodman, so it feels light and airy, yet is so hard swinging, faster than it sounds, and also, so elegant! :-)
It's an amazing group of dancers and I am having a blast putting this routine on them. We're expecting a few more folks (go SONH!) to start up next week, so if you're interested in joining, it's not too late. Please send me a PM though so I can make sure we get you all set up proper-like.
