Name my D&D Character

I'm playing D&D for the first time on Friday and I'm asking for help naming my character.

Here's what I know about her:

Quote
She's an assassin who can manipulate her own shadow, as well as others'. She can chuck her 'shroud' on people which causes damage, she can teleport through shadows and cloak herself in them. She wields a Khopesh-- which is a crazy scary curved sword, --and a hand crossbow. The only things you need to adhere to is that you're a hired killer, and have probably had a hard life because you're demonspawn.

My vote is to go ironic with something like Sunshine (+ Generic Last Name), putting the name at odds with your character's life and profession. It hints at the hard past as someone with either a cruel sense of humor named your character or something bad happened to lead the girl with the cheerily auspicious name into her current profession.

The name also shortens to Shine, and in a couple of book series I've read the euphemism for a hit/assassination was "to put a shine on someone". The shortening also gives both you and the DM/other players options for play. You can have your character love her full name and resent being called Shine by everyone else. You can insist on being called Shine and hate the week foofy name you tried to discard but which people still bring up and tease you with. Or you can choose any other scenario you can think of to play with the dichotomy.

Well, admittedly, up until this point she's been "MARTHA"

You didn't say which race your character is, but from your description, I'm guessing it's Drow?

You can get some predone names here.

Or create your own using prefixes and suffixes on this page.

Or generate a random name here.

(No, I'm not dorky at all. Why do you ask?)

There's always "Steve the Barbarian" to fall back on.

I would go for Janissa, after the Conan genre swordswoman/assassin who worked for the Bone Woman. Lots of demon-touched (literally) stuff in her past.

Alternates:

Xenobia Black Monikka Jevicca

Yes, I stole all of those. Big nerd points if you guess from where!

I've got a massive list of old characters of mine somewhere if nothing sticks.

The more Mugsy explains to me, the more horrified I am that I'm doing this....

Also, her name is Martha. And she will cut you!

In the end, she was renamed Ma'Artha by the guys. Had a great time playing and hope to do so again.
