R.I.P. Keith Shapiro... you will be greatly missed...

Just to open this up to the greater lindy hop community, we've lost a great one today. Keith Shapiro died in his sleep last night. I've leave it to others closer to the situation to go into further detail, but wanted to get the news out there so that people can start to think about ways to…

This is Summer (Eff, I've lost my login info and need help with that).

As you all know by now, Keith passed away last night. He DJ'd last night, came home and went to sleep. Sometime during the night, he passed on. We don't know what happened yet.

I'm devastated. He is the love of my life. Amazing husband and father. I honestly don't know what I'm going to do without him. And I know you all will miss him as well.

I just wanted to say thank you to all of you who've posted in this thread, and to the entire dance community, for the instant and constant outpouring of love I've received today. I'm sitting on a good friend's sofa, surrounded by other good friends, and more are on their way.

I'm not okay. I won't be okay for a long time. But I am loved and taken care of.

I will have someone post details (services, etc) when we have them, here and on the Facebook group.

Keith: We only met a few times, but I thoroughly enjoyed our dances and conversations. You will be missed so much.

Summer: You are in my thoughts. Stay strong and know that we all love and care about you.

Absolutely shocked to hear the news. Keith was one of the first people I met in the dance scene outside of my own city. He was here in Raleigh visiting friends, and he was a ball of sunshine, even then. We've kept in touch over the years and while I haven't gotten to see him as much as I'd like, the back and forth of emails and photos of Summer and the girls always made me smile. He'd always tell me it wasn't nearly as much as sending them made him smile.

Rest in Peace, my friend, and may your peace be filled with the best music and dance partners until you see your family again.

I have not posted here in awhile, but I am absolutely stunned by this news. I only met Keith a few times in person over the years, but interacted with him here a lot. What a kind, fun, and loving person. My heart goes out to his family and close friends.

So sorry for the sudden loss to so many. Much love to the family and people in Austin and worldwide.

I hope many can find some small comfort in the stellar life lived even if it was all too brief.

This morning BigCash, who is visiting Chicago, told me he saw something about Keith on facebook. After a desperate search for information, how fitting was it that where I 'met' Keith is where I find about his passing. I'm so heartbroken.

Both Keith and Summer have been so supportive of the scene and me personally...I don't know what else to say...

@Matt @Shana - yes, Keither was such a great voice here. So inevitably, we'll come across his voice on some of the best threads...

Chicagoans, BigCash and I are meeting up for drinks in his honor after work hours. Contact me if you're interested in meeting up...

I refused to believe the news until I saw several reports of it on several Facebook pages. It's just too horrible to accept.

I'd only met Keith a few times during several trips to Austin over the past year - but as everyone here will attest, he was an individual who stood out bright and sharp in my memory. Even passing acquaintances like me, Keith treated like an old and trusted friend, and was happy to invite us into his life to share a drink or attend a party at his place without hesitation. He simply liked people. That's just who he was.

I liked, respected, and admired Keith - as an organizer, a DJ, an emcee, but most of all as a person. One simply couldn't do otherwise.

I will remember him as the good man in the top hat.

I was shocked and saddened to hear the news this morning. His love of dancing, music, food, drink, and the people in his life was obvious by the way he lived. My heart goes out to Summer, the girls, and all of Keith's family & friends.

I never met Keith in person and knew him only via yehoodi and his podcasts. I was truly shocked and saddened for his family when I read this news this morning. Summer, my heart and prayers go out to you and your family.

Patti Smith wrote one of the most beautiful songs about loss and moving on when her husband died. I often think of it when I have lost someone. Here is link to the lyrics: http://www.musicsonglyrics.com/P/pattismithlyrics/pattismithfarewellreellyrics.htm

I just heard about this from my friend Sara on FB. I have never met him in person, but I have heard of him, and from what I know, he was influential in the dance community — a teacher, DJ and half of the blues podcast Confessing the Blues (which I recently started listening to).

It's heartbreaking to loose people in the community that I'm slowly becoming a part of.

My condolences...
