I've been researching this for more than a year with the intent of reproducing the Nightclub Map of Harlem as a fine art print. I have a chance at making this a reality, if the copyright holders are agreeable. Here's hoping!

Mike Thibault blogged about this early last year and has been researching this and other similar maps.
I believe there's a copy of it in Jazz: A History of America's Music, which is the (sometimes too similar) companion of Ken Burns' Jazz documentary.

One think I noticed was that the map is missing Lionel Hampton, who was discovered by Benny Goodman in Los Angeles.
