“SWINGING THROUGH DANCE HISTORY” SATURDAY, AUG 28 – 9 AM – 4 PM A series of five dance workshops traveling from the roots in African Dance, into the dances of the Swing era, through Rock and Roll, and a taste of Rhythm and Blues with Hand Dancing. Each workshop stands on its own or take them all for an experience in different styles of partner dancing. 9:00 – 10:15 Darian Parker African Expressions The physical elements of African Dance that survived the Middle Passage 10:30 – 11:45 Mickey Davidson Early Jazz Steps and basic Swing Out 12:00 – 1:15 Chazz Young Break Away Steps with the Swing Out 1:30 – 2:45 Richard Badu Savoy Style Swing Out Lindy and Beyond East Coast Swing East Coast Swing (6 count) with the music of the 50’s 3:00 – 4:15 Shirley Duncan Hand Dance Rhythm and Blues music together with the beauty of couple dancing You Don’t Have to Bring a Partner, Just Come!
