The Groovie Movie, a Pete Smith short released in 1944, is a satyrical look at the "jitterbug" that was sweeping the nation, featuring dancers Arthur Walsh, Jean Phelps (now Veloz), Lennie Smith, Kay Vaughn Smith, Irene Thomas, and Chuck Saggau. It begins with a comparison of Lindy Hop and classic jitterbug moves to dances of old, followed by a wild and crazy demonstration by our dancers to Count Basie's One O'Clock Jump. This film was rediscovered in the mid-90s and used as a blueprint for modern swing dancing, and is considered one of the most influential Lindy Hop film clips of all time.
