New for 2012
Original Choreography Competition
Are you looking for the opportunity to perform, teach, and get the recognition you deserve? Have you always wanted to create choreography that would become the next Tranky Doo? Then this competition is for you. Below you will find information laying out the rules and guidelines for this competition.
The winner of this competition will be picked by public voting on the Hawkeye Swing Festival website between December 16th and December 31st, so make your video fun to watch! The winner of the competition gets to teach their choreography at the event, and then perform that routine with members of the class during the main dance on Saturday night! Winner will also receive a free pass to Hawkeye Swing Festival, along with a free pass for a partner/friend, and free hotel room for the event (2 nights).

When submitting your entry to HawkeyeSwingFest@Gmail.com, you must include the following information. Failing to include this information will disqualify you from the competition.

Rules:
1. Length of song and choreography must be longer than 2 minutes, but shorter than 3 minutes
2. Choreography MUST be original, and must be solo jazz or partner swing dancing (no aerials)
3. Video must be shot after July 1st, and before December 15th
4. Video must be uploaded to youtube, and a link to the video needs to be emailed to HawkeyeSwingFest@Gmail.com, with all of your competition information (information below)
5. Video must include (verbally or typed) the name and home location of the choreographer (and dancers if there are more than one in the video), and name of the song and artist.
6. All videos must be uploaded, and submitted by 11:59 PM Central Standard Time, December 15th, 2011.
Guidelines:
1. Create an original piece of solo jazz or partner swing dancing choreography (no inverted aerials)
2. Please try to refrain from cutting and remixing songs, the goal is to create choreography that can be passed on to the current, and future generation of dancers.
3. Create a video of the choreography, be creative as it may score you extra points with voters!
4. Upload the video to Youtube
5. Send a link to the video, along with the Competition Entry Information (found below) to HawkeyeSwingFest@Gmail.com
6. Get your friends, fellow dancers, and family to vote for your video!

Mark your calendars for Thursday, October 6th, 8 PM CST. Why is this date important? It is the day and time that registration goes live for the 7th annual Hawkeye Swing Festival! You will want to get your pass early to take advantage of our very low early bird prices! We do sell out every year, so get your pass early!
This year we're changing our registration system, and now using a tiered registration system in which those who sign up the soonest pay the least. As always, the first few sets of registrants save the most money, on an event that is already very affordable!
We will be starting to announce our line up very soon! First up will be the musicians, a line up that you have never seen all in one place ever before, it will knock your socks off!

More information is being added to the Hawkeye Swing Festival website.
Start your fare alert now, there are 3 airports within an hour and a half drive of Iowa City. The closest airport is Cedar Rapids (CID), 2nd closest is Moline (MLI), and the farthest of the three is Des Moines (DSM). Once you book your flight, if you need help finding a ride to town from the airport email us at HawkeyeSwingFest@Gmail.com, and we will do our best to get you a ride!
The musicians line up is now starting to be announced over on facebook. You can look us up, Hawkeye Swing-Festival, and friend us! This year we are announcing and providing bios for every single musician that will grace the stage at Hawkeye Swing Festival. We do this because it is our goal to do everything we can to strengthen the relationship between dancers and musicians!

Registration officially opens on Thursday, October 6th at 8 PM CST, on www.HawkeyeSwingFest.com. Before registration opens though we are going to give you an opportunity to get your pass at a very discounted rate.
$50 Weekend Pass Sale, 3 Hours Only!
The $50 weekend pass sale (dances, competition viewing, competition eligibility) will be BEFORE registration even opens. It will happen the same night that Glenn Crytzer and his Syncopators are in Iowa City to play a dance. The pass sale will be from 8-11 PM CST on Tuesday, September 27th. The link to registration will ONLY be posted on the Hawkeye Swing-Festival facebook page. So make sure you take advantage, as this is the only huge pass sale that we will have. If you choose to come to the Glenn Crytzer and his Syncopators dance in Iowa City to do your Hawkeye Swing Festival pass registration, we will let you into the dance for free (Normally $10)! The dance will be held at Old Brick in Iowa City.

This year we are introducing a new and innovative referral program. Want your weekend pass to be free? That is something that you can do! After you complete your registration and payment for Hawkeye Swing Festival, you will receive an email with a unique link to the registration page. For each person that follows your link and successfully completes his or her registration for Hawkeye Swing Festival will reward you with an automatic $5 refund to the credit card that you used for payment (This system is completely automatic, you don’t need to do anything, and we never see your credit card information). We have our event hotel information!
The event hotel for 2012 is the Heartland Inn in Coralville, IA. Less than 2 miles from both venues, this hotel is known for its clean rooms and wonderful hospitality. The amenities are great, and the rooms are only $71.99/night (+tax), you can't beat that for a clean non-smoking room!

We are proud to announce the addition of Katibeth Lee to our outstanding lineup of instructors. Katibeth joins us from Houston, TX, and was the winner of the Original Choreography competition. She will be teaching her choreography and performing it during the Saturday Night main event with everyone who knows the routine.
