......ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh !
:evil:
OK.... I'm pissed. Have you Car Talk thread posters heard about this:
(New York-WABC, September 30, 2002) — Drivers will have to think twice before parking illegally in New York City anymore. Starting Tuesday, October 1st, fines for some city parking tickets will double.
Anybody who has every driven in the city knows how difficult it can be to find parking. City officials are hoping they can help cut down on the car traffic by increasing the cost of certain parking violations. Officials say the changes will hopefully convince many to leave their cars and trucks at home.
Many drivers we spoke with said the occasional parking ticket is a hassle, but it is simply the price of doing business in the city. But that price is about to increase.
Sam Miller, Assistant Commissioner of Finance: "There are about 35 fines... violations for which fines will increase from $55 to $105."
City finance officials say the parking fine hike is aimed at making streets safer and more accessible. Still, they don't deny that the estimated $62 million expected to be generated annually by the increase won't be welcome in our cash-strapped economy.
Among the violations that will see the fines hiked from $55 to $105:
* Double Parking
* Parking At A Hydrant
* Parking In A Crosswalk
* Parking In A No Standing Zone
Some motorists we spoke with called the increase exorbitant and unfair.
David Miller, Driver: "There's no place to park, the meters are up, if you park in a parking lot, it's going to cost you $30 for a half and hour. What do they expect people to do?
How the hell am I supposed to pay off my bar tab when these guys keep raising the cost of traveling to NYC !!?? :p I'll post the exact fines later. In the meantime, tell me what you think.

A certain Yehoodite just bought a Honda S2000. I don't wanna steal their thunder but MAN WHAT A CAR! It's tiny, a drop-top and with 240 horsepower attached to a stick-shift! I repeat 240 horsepower.

I removed the snow right after the picture, I swear.
No more room in the garage. The red Miata's is occupying the LE's space until I figure why the NOx is a lil'bit high (preventing emissions passing). Failed twice :(

removing the snow (unless you use a hair dryer...) is still going to scrape the finish Eff!!!! run out to Target and pick up a carcover. They're like 20 bux and make snow removal a 1 minute affair... Take it from an ex-Minnesotan...

WooHoo! I'm finally on some top 10 list! :wink:
Actually Eff, I've got a story for you to make you feel better about your recent "car abuse." Back in the day, when I was in high school, I knew a girl that wasn't the brightest candle on the cake. After her car was so completely dirty she finally decided to wash it herself. Well, since she was a bit on the spoiled side, she'd never washed a car before. And for some reason, (beyond me), she decided that the best thing to use to wash her car would be an SOS PAD!!! The truly sad part... it took her nearly half of the car before she realized that it was wrecking the finish... ugh.
(And for the record, no it wasn't me. My father was a mechanic and I was working on cars when I was 13...)

Every time I see a Honda Accord, I really want to smash one of the windows, hot wire the ignition and take it for some joy riding at 100MPH. No wonder it's between the Camery and Civic on that list.

The debate of the day: snow tires, or no? They're 380 mounted on steel wheels, balanced, no tax, delivered. But the reason for debate is that I hardly use my car anymore! Being on campus, I only use it once or twice a week to drive ten miles or less.

newsboy,
that's a great deal but with as little driving as you do, IMHO, I don't think it's worth it. I know that it gets pretty bad up there but as long as you're getting sufficient traction I wouldn't fork over that cash.
Hey, go out and buy some boilermaker's instead. 8)

OK, I just saw that MTV show with the rapper's cars. :(
Some knucklehead barely out of his 20's say's while visiting a Beverly Hills exotic car dealer, "hook me up with one of them Bentley's chief". LOL !
The low point was when one rapper was showing off his car collection and while showing off his priced posession, an Aston Martin Vantage say's, " this is it, the Auston Martnin".
Ugggh ! Auston Martnin ??!! :o Buy a car whose name you can pronounce whydontcha !

Yup Swank, that's what I'm thinkin' too. Up here, 380 buys a decent custom made Italian suit (yeah I know the buck don't stretch that far in NYC). And it will, come the end of this week when I have time to get over to the tailor's. :D

I saw that same show Reggie... I just about hit the roof when that guy was talking about the Austin Martin... "Ummm... Austin Martin? Never heard of em... now why don't you take the stick out of your Aston and learn how to pronounce the name of one of the greatest auto manufacturers of all time, aight?!?!?" I was so wanting the dealer to rail on him.
It was nice seeing a Murcielago, but the pronunciation there wasn't that great either...
Wasn't too sprung on the SUVs w/ 8 screen inboard distraction, but I guess those guys have to deal with a lot of snow and off-roading in SoCal...
The guy who was down with the American Heavy Metal was cool... good to see a Chevelle and Pontiac Goat treated right...

I cringed at the Austin comment.
That rapper was Xhibit (sic). Same cat in the Bentley shop.
Drove Miss Steak's Supercharger Mini last night. Second Mini I've driven. She got ALL the bells and whistles. Loved the suction sound of the charger. More impressed with the tight handling and low engine pull than the top end. I think I was expecting more of a turbo-like rush at the end. It's more evenly spread out than a turbo (I've driven and owned turbos) but this was my first go with a blower.

Man, Ford is finally getting it right. I hope to hell they decide to release these "concepts" as the next production Mustangs. Beeyootifull bay-bee!
Bad pictures...but from the others I've seen, there are tons of styling cues from the late 60s/early 70s mustangs in these concepts. Love the round headlights!

Isn't the head designer J. Mays still at FORD? He seems to do a good job at focusing on bring back as much as the original cars design as possible (beetle while at VW, then Thunderbird as first project at Ford, then the FORD GT?)
I like the original 64-67 mustangs. Any time I see the move "Bullet", I watch mesmerized Steve McQueen driving the 67 fastback down the streets of SF...
P.
btw EFF, I drove all versions of the MINI and the Cooper S is a blast. The salesman was a bit of a dumbass, took me out to show it off at 100! Then handed the car over to me. Nice twisty roads in Northern Bergen county...yeah baby! Electric Blue with the Red White and Blue on the roof!

:o Eff, shame on you ! That car should be in the garage !
Or at the very least under a impermeable cover!!! Eff, you know how much dust is in snow?!?!? You're dulling your finish as you read this!!!

So Eff, you want those tips on using 3M polish to take out fine scratches? ;)
Not that I particularly care about the finish on the Intrepid...but a car cover doesn't sound like such a bad idea after all. Hmmm.
Camry finally passes Accord.

I don't know much about cars, but I think this car looks good with my outfit:
