......ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh ! OK.... I'm pissed. Have you Car Talk thread posters heard about this: (New York-WABC, September 30, 2002) — Drivers will have to think twice before parking illegally in New York City anymore. Starting Tuesday, October 1st, fines for some city parking tickets…

Not quite on topic, but random car question to other Yehoodites: has anyone else (over 5'10") noticed that cars are not being made with sufficient headroom? I am an honest 6'0", wear a fairly normal 33" inseam on pants and don't fit comfortably in most cars. I looked at the Mustang GT convertable and as soon as I sat down realized that if I was in an accident, the top of my head would get sheared off at the eyebrows.
And this is an American car.
Some friends I won't ride with because I don't like banging my head when we go over speedbumps.

Being 6'3" I had to shop around. You sortof have to consign youself to never fitting in true sports cars. They are almost always too small. However, my Outback Sport has plenty of headroom. If you want to be stylish and trendy, the new Beetle has more headroom than my car, and the new Mini has only one inch less, so I'd bet you could fit in both of those cars.

Luckily for me, headroom is not that big an issue because, as much as I like sportscars, I am a much bigger fan of sports sedans and saloons. Maybe it's because the engineer in me likes vehicles that can do things they don't look like they should be able too. Lik a family sedan that can hang with most sports cars.
Give me this anyday:
2003 Audi RS6; Bi-turbo V-8, 450hp, 415lb-ft of torque at just 1950 rpm, 0-60 4.7 sec, 60-0 in 2.6 sec, AND its All-Wheel-Drive.
Since its unlikely that I'll have the 85K to drop on that anytime soon, if I decide to go for something speedy, this is more likely:

So I amanage a Dairy Queen in Colorado right on the corner of a busy intersection. I see amazing cars all of the time drive through it.
Today I saw 3 Vipers (one brand one 03)
A couple of H2's Hummer (one was a soccer mom car, brinng in the kids for Icecream)
A 32' chevy roadster (Yellow with a full crome engine)
and one of the new 350Z
Oh yes and one of the kids about 16 or 17 drove a brand new H2 down to get Icecream.
I worked my way through college at a race engine shop.
I saw some amazing engines get boult there.
My favorite was a blown Chevy 350 (3 lbs of boost) that made 500 Ft Lbs of tourgue from 900 rpm to 7000 rpm on 91 octain pump gas.

How's the handling compare? Most folks going for straight performance would probably go coupe 'cause they are usually stiffer and lighter than the rag-top. There are ways to correct both these issues but they usually add to the price.
Being that I am sure the roadster has plenty of performance from the get-go anyway, go topless.

Went to the Salon de l'Auto, a prestigious auto show held every year in Geneva. I'm not really a car-kinda guy. But its a great show. This year featured a Swiss inventor who managed to fit an ENTIRE ENGINE inside of a wheel. He created a few crazy cars using these modified wheels that are just great. Now THIS is a car:

Sweet baby J_sus! Scottsdale is full of amazing cars.
Just went to get a Sharpie at Staples (to label all the CDs I'm burning from their libraries, no limit on how many you can take out!) and I saw:
3 new Nissan 350Zs 4 new M-B SL500s 1 Lamborghini VT in electric blue with custom huge rims

I have heard this more in reference to Japanese cars.
But while we are at it, the average American male is 5'9".
Being 5'9" myself, I fit every car I have ever driven.
-Eff
Really? I always pictured you closer to 6'.
And yeah, Scottsdale has mad wealth.
-j
Being 5'9" is heaven. You fit every car and nearly everything0 in thrift shops.
-Eff
I want one of these!
Retro styling....modern engine.
I have a 1956 Morris Minor that looks great but gives me no end of strife.
What is that? Me likey!
-Eff
cool, me too
THAT, my dears, is a 1991 Nissan Figaro. One of only 20,000 ever produced and very tricky to get hold of.
If they ever do another run I'll be at the front of the line. :loveu: :loveu:
Okay, just went to get a frozen 5 Yuppie coffee.
Here's what I saw:
2 of those 400 5 hp Corvettes
3 H2 Hummers
'03 Viper in yellow
Ferrari 550 in red
yellow convertible Ferrari
This town is crazy.
-Eff
It's classic or nothing for me.
These are cute :
The salesman told me they will throw in a base Mini sans tax. :o

Thank you for that, eff. :)

But at the rate I'm going and if the longevity of my current Outback Sport holds out (1997 model 215K miles and going strong)
It likely I will end up in something like this:
In case you couldn't tell, I'm also a fan of AWD.
That's my draw to the M5.
-Eff
Yeah, now if only BMW made an M5X
Check it:
