Gee, Thanks Eff! :D I have some good and some bad news.... My Mustang sprang a leak on friday.... But, the dealer said that whatever it is, he will fix it and get it back to me by monday!!! :D
I love this dealer... I highly recomend him to anyone who is looking for a new car.

Eff, that reminds me of out little field trip to the BMW dealership a couple of months ago.
BTW... I'm seeing more of the SSR's out on the road lately. And just this weekend I heard another review and it was pretty much on the spot... "overpriced, cheaply made but pretty to look at". So disappointing.
Coincidentally, I took a ride in my friends new Murano a week ago. I'm not an SUV guy at all but this time I'm impressed. He couldn't believe it when I told him that the Murano has more room in it than the Hummer. I just told him, "ask my friend Neal, he'll tell ya". LOL !

Love the new BMW ads for the Olympics. Especially the one with the farmer:
"Farmer: A farmer opens a barn door and reveals to a younger man an old BMW, covered in dust, with a chicken on the hood. The younger man's jaw drops and he immediately begins writing out a check. When the farmer sees the amount, he says, "Holy." It then cuts to a shot of a shiny, new BMW racing on the road and reveals it's the Farmer in the driver's seat. The voiceover states, "No luxury brand holds its value better than BMW.""
PS - There is another new ad with a guy waxing a wrecked 5 series, despite the front end damage. What you don't know is that the car in the commercial is the actual vehicle used in the IIHS' offset frontal crash test.

So, my car is a 2001 and guess how many miles I have on the odometer.
99,928 miles baby ! :P
I guess that's not so unusual consider how far I commuted to work for 3 years and how far I've traveled in search of "fun". But damn, that's a lot of mileage !
So, I'm about to perform my first major tune up. MAJOR ! You name it... oil change, plugs, wires, pcv, ignition and adjusting the idle. That also includes all the stuff on my wish list like new rotors, brakes, wheels, tires, bushings, springs, high- output coil and exhaust. I
I already do a regular maintenance thing with my K&N fiter reusable filter. If you don't have a K&N, I highly recommend it. The whole process is easy, you breath a lot better and you're probably saving yourself some money besides. This weekend I'll be doing some of the work myself and the rest I'll be handing to my mechanic.
Anybody else out there got a 100K on their baby ?

Too many service items to list, but here's what I can remember:
5 sets of tires
3 sets of brakes
2 sets of belts
2 sets of drive shafts
2 water pumps
3 fuel filters
30 oil filters
3 sets of spark plugs
1 set of plug wires
4 pcv valves
3 cans of r134a
1 set of struts
1 battery
1 tranny filter
I think that's about it. Givin' up the ghost, time to junk her and get a new one. Seriously eyeing a Mini.

HA ! Eff, yeah... that's probably more like 100K. LOL !
:P
Newsboy, yeah... that sounds about right ! :P
This morning I told the guy at the filling station I go to "she (my car) is as expensive as any girl I've ever dated but a whole lot more reliable. LOL !
As far as minis go... you know you gotta talk to Talaga about that. I'm sure he's around here somewhere.

Just finished vacuuming and cleaning the Intrepid for the first time in months. Maybe a year. Discovered that the driver's side floor mat has worn through to the rubber backing under my right heel.
:o
On a side note, used Armor All protectant wipes today. Highly recommend them. No messy spray, they leave just the right amount of Armor All on surfaces (no shiny/slick plastic), and they're easy to use.
Rather enjoying this "drive it into the ground" period. Paid off for over a year now, and it's to the point where things aren't worth fixing. Small rust spots? Who cares. Faded plastic? Gonna junk it anyway! Dirty? Washing it ain't gonna make it look pretty, so why bother!

Oops. May have spoken too soon. I'm at 140,135 miles now, having driven down to NY from Rochester. I noticed last night that it's running a bit on the hot side. Sure sign that either the water pump or head gaskets are going.
Just hope she gets me back to Rochester tomorrow. Don't fail me now baby!

So this morning I popped the cap on the coolant reservoir to check the anti-freeze level, and just top it off with a little bit of water. Then drove from the GW down to Chambers St., and back, then down again, and back again...with the coolant reservoir cap off. Looked a little like the photo above before I realized what I'd done. Oops!
:crash:
No permanent damage, and thankfully the cap stayed right on top of the strut tower where I left it. But now my car smells like fish, and I left a few streaks of coolant on the street. Oy. I swear this is the weekend from hell.

Ya see... and people think I carry a portable bar in my car for the boozing. I really carry it so I can pop an ice cube in the radiator if I need to. 8)

Nah, she's all good! I popped the cap on, let 'er cool down for a few hours, and topped her off w/ a half gallon of water. Figured out my water/coolant ratio is around 65/35, still in the safe range. Anything between 20-60 coolant is still safe, at least during the summer. Runnin' like a champ now, nice and stable. She'll be fine for the trip home, and I'll power flush her when she gets home and refill the system.

Is it normal for semi-metallic brakes to screetch?
Recently, my car started wailing like a banshee when I brake. It doesn't pull to either side, and deceleration is smooth (no jitter / pulse) but the darn thing sounds like a city bus.
I had a new radiator installed yesterday, so I asked them to look at the brakes while it was in the shop. They said everything looks good, and the noise is normal for semi-metallic brake pads. Really?
Originally posted Thursday, September 2, 2004 (7 years ago)
Yes the brakes.
Hey Newsie: "Sure sign that either the water pump or head gaskets are going"...isn't there plenty of other reasons. Like a faulty fan switch, stuck thermostat, clogged section of radiator, obstruction of radiator...
Hey Guys, I got a new ride this weekend. 20 Yes/No questions...

Holy crap, did Swank just post? :o
Good to see you man!
Oh, and is it me or does that new 3-Series kinda look like it was designed by Pontiac?
it looks more like a nissan to me
Doh ! :o It has been awhile since I last posted, hasn't it ? LOL !
You're right though, I see some Pontiac influence in that design. As long as it doesn't end up looking like the Aztec, I guess it's not so bad.
LOL. :P
Oddgen,
It's another Bangle creation. Like the Z4, 5s, and 7s.

Is it manufactured by BMW? (Mini Coopers don't count.)
