Quoted from "Mr. Swank" I'll have a special announcement this week.
My initial reaction was excitement. Then I realized you've said that at least twice already, with no results. So now I'm at the "I'll believe it when I see it" stage. :P

Quoted from "Mugsy Malone" if the definition of "portrait" is of one person (which is it, according to every dictionary I consulted), than is "family portrait" a misnomer?
Maybe that means a picture with only ONE family in it.

Psst...portraits are delineation of individual people.
Which raises an interesting question...if the definition of "portrait" is of one person (which is it, according to every dictionary I consulted), than is "family portrait" a misnomer?
m.
Portraits don't necessarily have to be of individual people, though often they are. Historically they are a vertical format, but nowadays this isn't always the case.
The difference is that portraits are staged. In the days of portrait painters, someone would 'sit' for a portrait. While this is generally the term used today, 'sitting' means posing, usually in a studio or other setting.
When I, personally, think of portaiture, I think of a subject(s) in front of a backdrop either in muted color or depth of field and few if any props as a means of calling solitary attention to the subject(s). A portrait in essence is a portrayal of its subject(s).
While many of the shots Eff has submitted are very well-done in execution and modeling, technically many are not portraits. But they are very good photographs and enjoyable to look at.

Well, I'd call on Swank to post one, and he'd probably say he'll do it in a minute, but then he'll wait a week or so. Months later there still won't be one there, but that's the way it goes. :P
