Okay, I've had enough with the chocolate covered BS of a dance community I have been involved with. In AA, they say the first step is admitting you have a problem. Well, I have been involved with the perverse afterparty crap long enough. I am saying right here and right now that I do not…

Dana? Shut up. Swing Talk is boring enough already without stifling bitching and complaining. Let us rant, or I'm going to spam Kitchen Sink and not get banned just to taunt you.

Quoted from "equivoque" Are people actually complaining about too much sex and to much sexual behavior? This is yehoodi right? This is a joke right?
If Britney Spears has too much sex, that is one thing. If Newt Gingrich has too much sex, that is another. And I'm surrounded by Newt Gingriches.

I'll be the first to admit that blues can be sexy and bawdy, and downright suggestive, but the music most often speaks in inuenndo and never quite crosses that line. The dance should reflect that.
You certainly should be the first to admit it. Damn. The first time I saw you blues dancing... Opened a whole new world. Its the subtly and innuenda that make it the most fun.
Quoted from "Ogden" If all you do is sit in closed position and do various body rolls, you just ain't blues dancing.

Be my guest. That will certainly be more entertaining. than this holier than thou blues is the devil's dance discussion ad nauseum.
My actual point was, this didn't exactly start out as a threads about how blues isn't grinding. It seemed to refer more to the debauchery (nakeness, body shots, binge drinking, etc.) that has plagued the scene lately. Some, however, can't get beyond blues dancing sucks and therefore can't contribute anything intelligent to a discussion that purports to be more than "blues dancing sucks."
And while I don't want someone else's morality rammed down my throat, I have avoided the big exchanges for exactly the reasons stated in the first post. All the college greek system partying is not my cup of tea. Been there, done that, moved on.

For someone who is so picky about the actual words used in her posts and how people misinterpret the point of your post, you engage in EXACTLY THE SAME BEHAVIOR.
The point is not that blues is the devil's dance. The point is that blues dancing has been mutated into something unpalatable to many people. Whether it's the grinding or the auxiliary partying or the mere perception that blues dancers are icky doesn't matter. Something really cool is being [bleep!]ed up.

No, I don't think you are annoyed because I told you to shut up. Thousands of people have told you to shut up before and you have never expressed an iota of annoyance, so why on earth would I think that?
In fact I don't think you are annoyed at all, but if you would devote the amount of energy to your blues dancing that you did to researching Yehoodi archives, you would probably be able to stain men's pants at will upon entering the room.

Okay, my initial intention with bringing up blues was not to get into a debate about whether blues in general is morally right... It is one of my favorite dance styles. I just get sick of having to defend my home scene reputation because a handful of people sap all the intemacy out of it and turn it (possibly unknowningly) into something perverse.
As for afterparties; Yes, you do have an option. End of story there. My beef is when (and I agree that my Sh t stinks here as well) the major dances turn out to be worse that the afterparties.
Anyway, I'm just overall ticked at the attitude of not only locals in my area, but also the national scene when it comes to my scene. So, following my own advice in the "Death of a scene" thread, I'm gettin' off my butt and stirring up something to hopefully make it better for those who want to dance, but not contract some wierd disease from doing so.

If I might drop my two cents into the proverbial change jar, I've always kinda enjoyed the "formal" nature of dances where making out on the dance floor is just considered plain rude. I'm not talking about a dance style here :)
It's kinda like "no sex in the champagne room." I want to be able to dance without worrying about sending the wrong impression to someone. It's fun, it's flirty but it doesn't mean anything unless you want it to. In which case, take it off the dance floor and do something about it. Just as you wouldn't want someone forcing their morals on you, people don't immorality being forced on them either.
I know blues has been beat to death of late, but as a newbie, I just found out that it existed thanks to these threads! Looks like fun (bumping and grinding notwithstanding)!

I say that whatever two consenting people 18 or older decide to do with each other is their own damned business.
The scene has changed in many ways since the Swing resurgence began. I personally find it a lot less sexy when too much is "laid out on the table" too soon. People looking for a quick fix should go to a strip club. The shift to sweatpants and sneakers hasn't helped either...I find imagination a pretty fun and powerful thing (what's under that beautiful dress?)
But the whole idea that swing dances are supposed to be entirely sexless is a modern, neo-conservative concept more suited to old movies about the swing era than the actual era itself. You think the swing dancers back then never got down and dirty? They were facing economic depression and a world war! Read some actual personal histories from the era. They were hooking up left and right.
And, American indigenous music (Jazz and Blues) has deep roots in sensuality and sex. Indeed, the very term "Jazz" comes from a very specific sexual term (which, due to the yehoodi censors, can't be said).
I just think that if music is sexy and dance is flirty, then it's natural for things, at times, to progress naturally to the next level. Otherwise, the whole thing takes on a certain level of hipocrisy. The fact that some people in some places do it in a way that others find distasteful, I guess, can't be helped. And, the frat-party asthetic is unfortunate, and certainly doesn't appeal to me.
Either way, Dprezz--you are (I assume) an adult also...if you don't like what's transpiring in a given room, you have every god-given right as an American, to walk out of it. Like it or not, Jazz is sexy music. Act on it--or DON'T act on it--but if you can't make your peace with it, TRY COTILLION.

Justice, it is fun. And when done right (or, some would argue, wrong), it doesn't even have to lead to making out on the dance floor. Find me in Houston at the GSWLF and we'll have a dance!

This approach, in my opinion, leads to "rule by the minority". If everybody just avoided idiocy, nobody would be able to leave their bedrooms. Idiocy requires censure; fortunately we also have the god-given right as an American (wait, when did God sign the Constitution?) to bitch, moan, and complain.
Just out of curiosity, and I don't mean to imply that you are ignorant, do you know the specifics of the event that dpezz is complaining about? I'm wondering if you would change your mind if he PM'd you with details.

I smell a locked thread coming up....
Like this is the first Yehoodi thread to go off-topic. And it's not even there yet.
Blues dancing, in its current form, is a beautiful thing. Blues dancing, as it is being advertised in some quarters is something else entirely.
And we're getting a bad name for it.
