(Ooh la la, that topic title sounds so naughty...)

So I was just on the subway with Jennifer Connolly and Paul Bettany and their baby. They got on at my station in Brooklyn Heights and were playing with their beautiful little boy. It was wonderful to see such attentive and loving parents, and to see them take the subway like normal people! Also, Paul Bettany is really hot in person.

I saw Kevin Bacon on 7th Avenue a few months ago.

I shared a subway pole to Park Slope once with Steve Buscemi. He's TINY! He was reading a script.

I passed Elisha Cuthbert (plays Jack's daughter on "24") on 6th Avenue a while ago. She's also tiny.

I was in the Prada store in SoHo a few months ago and all the saleswomen were fawning over Linda Evangelista. She's BEAUTIFUL in person.

Robert Verdi lives across the street from my ex boyfriend (in my neighborhood) and I see him ALL the time. Also, he looks just like my ex boyfriend.

Eva Mendez (the model -- is that her name?) lives in the building next door to my office building.

I was with my friend in Central Park a few years back and he saved Tom Cruise's kid from falling backwards off a rock. Tom said thank you.

Chris Rock lived in my old neighborhood and I used to see him at the local diner all the time. Ditto for Rosie Perez.

That's all I can think of for now.

Anyone else?

I was nearly hit by Matthew Broderick on a Victrola scooter while crossing the street in the West Village.

But then the next summer I almost hit him riding my bike past Silvercup Studios in Queens- he was coming out between two cars. Take that, Producer Boy!

a little over 10 years ago (when i was going to uga in athens) i got pushed aside by michael stipe. we were waiting in line for a local venue and he was on his way out when he pushed into me.

a few years later, i worked in a video editing/duplicating store, and whitman mayo (grady from sandford & son) came in to have copies made of his demo reel. he was very sweet! there was another person that came by while i worked there, but i don't know her name. she was apparently a popular burlesque dancer in the 50s & 60s (long curly red hair). let me just say.... the years were not kind to her! :o

I served a cup of coffee to some old skool rap star whose name I just forgot at Porto Rico on St. Marks.

I performed at a party at the Soros' estate Saturday night that was attended by Joan Rivers and Mary McFadden, though I saw neither one.

Bailey Chase, the guy that played Graham of the Initiative on Buffy, who now plays a doctor on The Guiding Light (I think) takes salsa lessons at the studio where I work. He's a big guy, but way nice, though.

I served a cup of coffee to one of the original Munchkins back in NC.

Oh, I did get to stand within three yards of Star Jones while she filmed a TV show on Tuesday.

And I shook hands with Horace Silver.

Clearly I don't move in the same realms as Miss Swingkitten.

I saw Martin Sheene two weekends ago at the Atlanta airport. He was looking directly at me for like 60 seconds. (That was because there was a huge tv just above my head and he was watching CNN for a sec... but I can dream). I have also seen Aaron Nevile (big woop) and at LAX I saw someone famous... I think it was Tom Cruise but that was a while ago and I don't really remember anymore.

Two weeks ago whil checking out of a hotel in Phoenix, AZ I saw Eric Estrada in the lobby, then later that day, saw Charles Barkley on the flight back to Atlanta.

Hmmmm, crazy. . .

My celebs are mostly chefs:

Alton Brown at a book signing Thomas Keller at The French Laundry Charlie Trotter at his restaurant in Chicago Tony Bourdain at Les Halles

But there are others: Bill Clinton (I used to be from Arkansas, so it was weird to talk about mutual friends and have him say, "Tell them hi for me!") Al Gore - man they never really show how big his bald spot is on TV

I've never really had a random run-in with a celebrity, though ... although I have had some good random run-ins ;)

oooh - you met tony bourdain? rowr

my favorite is seeing henry rollins in the astor place starbucks maybe 10 years or so ago. he was busy writing, and i was too scared to go up and speak to him, so i just sat at a table nearby and watched him for around 15 minutes like he was in a terrarium or something.

there are others too, but since i'm little miss short-term memory loss lately, i can't think of them right now.

I got to go to an after party for a Brooklyn Academy of Music production of Twelfth Night about a year ago. The show starred Emily Watson (Gosford Park, Red Dragon) and was directed by Sam Mendes (American Beauty, Road to Perdition) so I got to meet them. That was cool.

Also Edward Norton and Selma Hyak were there (she's about three feet tall in real life) so I got to shake Ed Norton's hand. That was really cool.

Gorgio Armani was there because he apparently did the costumes for the show and had something to do with the hosting of the party. He was ridiculously drunk and tripped over my friend Chrispy.

Oh! And David Bradley! (Filch in the Harry Potter movies) He played Sir Andrew in the production we saw.

He's the coolest guy you'll ever meet. Really nice, really talkative. He talked to us about random stuff for much longer than he had to if he was just going to be polite. He signed my sister's copy of Prisoner of Azkaban, complete with a little picture of a cat!

Totally awesomely nice guy.

Most of mine have been musicians.

I met Count Basie in Chicago in '74. I got to sit beside him on his piano bench and talk to him.

Back in the early '80s, R.E.M used to play a little bar in Greensboro and they almost always came to the after-parties.

Other somewhat notables: Stiv Bator from The Dead Boys Robin James from The Damned Rick Neilson and Robin Zander from Cheap Trick Jimmy Pursey from Sham 69 Roland Alphonso from The Skatalites and Pat Sajak and Vanna White when I was Wheel of Fortune

This thread reminds me of a friend's story about how he met Debbie Harry, but didn't realize it was Debbie Harry until afterwards. He's one of those guys whose got a billion great stories and has met a ton of famous musicians. Just thinking about Jeff's stories makes my sides hurt.

Also, i had some weirdness tonight, because i was convinced that this guy at my table (about my parents' age, distingushed grey hair, a bit stocky, nice eyes) looked familiar, but couldn't figure out whether it was b/c he was slightly famous, or jsut because i'd seen him in the restaurant before.

Anyway, back on topic:

I did wait on Kevin Nealon once. He was very nice, very tall, and tipped well. The funniest part was that when he walked in the door I was all, "Dude, that guy really looks like Kevin Nealon." Then had to explain who that was to some of my co-workers. I soon realized that it was, in fact, him, and had a good chuckle. :D

When I was in New York one summer, I lived downstairs in the building where Robert Redford lived in the penthouse. I saw him in the lobby and the elevator a few times. That summer I also met Clive Barker and Famke Janssen at the premiere of one of Clive's movies. And in school, I had classes with Fred Savage (who was a complete jerk), was good friends with Danny Pintauro (Jonathan from Who's the Boss) -- yes, he is openly gay -- and gave a mint to one of Chelsea's Secret Service agents at a football game (I was sitting directly behind her). I've met quite a few authors through classes and jobs: Ursula K. Le Guin, Pat Murphy, Karen Joy Fowler, Pat Cadigan, Harlan Ellison, Kurt Vonnegut, Tom Wolfe, Steven Jay Gould, Michael Moore, Jack Palance (he wanted me to give him and his grandson a tour of the campus, but we couldn't coordinate times, unfortunately), Warren Christopher (Clinton's Secretary of State), and others I'm not remembering right now. I also met Jonas Salk (inventor of the polio vaccine) at an awards ceremony once. And in high school, I had a master jazz class with Max Roach.

tommy lee and val kilmer were shooting a movie in the hall way infront of my apartment door a week or so ago... no one told me and i physically ran directly into them. its the weirdest, most surreal thing to open your door, walk into a couple celebrities and onto a movie set and not be expecting anything.... things you'd have thought your landlord might have mentioned.

I met Thom Yorke of Radiohead in 1995 on my way to their concert. I was out for a walk and I said, "Hi" to him. The other kids I was with didn't recognize him and wondered why I greeted him.

Patch Adams was a regular guest in residence in Allen Hall during my freshman and sophomore years I stayed there. He held workshops on all sorts of things from spirituality, activism, and relaxation to clowning and being silly. He was real cool and an excellent massager. He had forearms of steel.

Barbara Trent had also been a guest in residence in Allen Hall. She's the director and producer of the Oscar winning documentary, The Panama Deception. Those academy awards are pretty heavy.

BJ Armstrong, Will Purdue, Alonzo Spellman, and Richard Dent all have seen movies at the theater I worked at when I was in high school.

I was Mike Wilbon's waiter after he played a round of golf at the course I work at. Pardon the Interruption was playing at the time he was in and fill-ins had taken over for him and Tony Cornheiser because they were both on vacation.

I've shaken Al Gore's Hand.

Oh, boy...so many...

George Blackstock (very quiet guy, barely spoke) Alissa Flanchard (saw her in a cafe) John Fiazzi and Dianne Stand (they were walking in Central Park) Patrick Wyatt DeWayne Smith (his daughter's very cute) Amanda Veneridge Christof Ansette Megan Tarny (the guy she was with was incredibly ugly - hope it wasn't her boyfriend) Tom Pointer Kate Napperhorn

...which just goes to show that they're not celebrities unless other people recognize them, too.

Let's see...

Um, there was this one time when Kirstie Alley came to Wichita. I got to hear her say the "f" word. That was pretty funny. My favorite part was when (minutes before the show) her attendant comes out and screams "Everyone shut up. Ms Alley needs focus time."

That cracked me up.

Oh oh, and last night Gary Busci came to Wichita to promote his Buddy Holly story (I'll keep my comments about the movie to myself). I swear he was drunk... and that lazy, blinking eye... what the heck was up with that?

... on a final note... why is it that some celebrities feel they have to end all their shows with some sort of theological note... "...and I wouldn't be here today if it weren't for him and you all. Thank you, and remember God makes it all possible."

ya ya... whateva.

A few years ago, I ran into Michael Stipe of REM having coffee and a smoke out behind Fred Segal in LA.

During Oscar week in '98 I was on an internship in LA, and staying at the Four Seasons. Every time I walked in or out of the hotel for the first couple of days I was there, Charlie Sheen was always hanging out in the lobby.

The New York Knicks came to town during that time, Jeff Van Gundy bumped into me on the elevator, and Patrick Ewing was waiting near the circle drive for the charter as I was leaving in a cab.

Later on that week, Jimmy Page was eating dinner at Ivy on Robertson a few tables over from where I was.

My brother and I happened upon an 80s Edmonton Oilers reunion at Gretzky's in Toronto during a trip there in '95.

I caught a glimpse of Bill Clinton waving from inside a limo near Buckingham Palace during a visit to London while I was in college.

I waited in a concession line with Bruce Wolf of Fox Sports at a Blackhawks game a while back.

I went on a photo shoot with Marc Hauser a few years ago.

I shook Harry Caray's hand before a game at Wrigley Field...while I was wearing a Marlins cap.

I ain't gonna work on Maggie's Farm no more.

I have a friend who works at Starbucks. Tons of celebrities get their fix there. She said Union Square is the one where she's seen the most.

Gary Busey or however you spell his name IS rather strange. I went to a movie premier of a really-stupid-movie-that-will-not-be-named and he was hitting on me and offered to buy me a drink...however, it was at the hard rock cafe in universal studios and there was an open bar. i think he was a little smashed. We talked about...the movie and working with chimps all night. Not to mention his favourite sexual positions and I wasn't the one who brought that up! Ew.

I've met tons of celebs however, my favourite one is Eion Bailey, whom I dated for 7 months. He was the medical student in Centre Stage who dated the bulimic girl, and he was also "frank" in Pancho Villa, and he's done a ton of other things. He has a movie that was supposed to come out in January with Val Kilmer, but the release date got pushed back.

To err on the faithful side of desire would be a most endearing fate. -Me

Oh, I forgot to mention these cause they weren't really 'run-ins'. I actually went to high school with Norah Jones and knew her pretty well;and Erica Badu, Roy Hargrove (jazz trumpet), and Eddie Brickel all also went to my high school and came back for reunions or benefits where I either got to meet or see them very much upclose... (so close I could see the coke on Roy's nose) RD
