From the organizer of the Nashville Music City MiniCamp.......
Music City Mini Camp - The Scoop
You've probably been wondering about this year's (MC)2. You may have seen some of the flyers out, you may have attended in previous years, you may not actually have a clue what this "Mini Camp" is all about.
(MC)2 was the original dual focused weekend with equal emphasis placed on Lindy Hop and Balboa in a symbiotic relationship. But that's not where it started.
Due to venue troubles this year (MC)2 is taking a step back towards the "mini" moniker of the original event. August 5-7, Nashville will play host to (MC)2 - Lindy Hop Edition. The Balboa Edition of (MC)2 will be later in the year, a date will be announced prior to the Lindy weekend (Aug 5-7).
Don't think that Lindy Hop will be the only attraction at (MC)2 this year. Even though Balboa is not possible on the same weekend we have not abandoned our quest for the cutting edge of Swing Dance events. Along side all you the dance classes will be workshops specifically designed around, for, and by swing dance organizers.
We're inviting some of the brightest minds and most successful organizers to come present the secrets of their trade, to discuss the challenges and successes they've experienced over the years and to share what makes a scene, event, studio, what-have-you strong. So whether you're a first time promoter, or long time scene leader, if you're looking for better ways, new ideas, or just want to rub elbows with others like yourself we hope you'll make the trip to the Music City this summer. There's never been anything quite like this before (that we know of).
The dances will again be peppered with a light offering of contests to get the blood pumping. The Jack and Jill tradition will be continued and added to the mix this year will be the Southern ALHC Regional. But all those details in due time.
Bringing the Lindy Hop to us will be Sean and Tonya Morris from Los Angeles CA, Bill Borgida and Julee Mertz from Ithaca NY and Chicago IL, and Caitlin George and Peter Strom from Toronto Canada and Minneapolis MN. Classes will be offered for Exploring, Continuing and Mastering levels.
Registration will be a bit different this year. Due to the compressed time frame we're offering a downward sliding price scale. The result is that the more people attending, the lower everyone will have to pay. Full details are available online at www.musiccitymotion.com and registration will open soon.

I hope to see all of you come on down to Nashville. Just like last year, I am organizing the cookout and pool party. If you come, be sure to bring a swimsuit and stay until Monday so that you all (two words) can enjoy the post camp party. After the party, we take all of the remaining guests downtown for some Honky Tonkin. This year we will visit Roberts Western World where two time Grammy Award winning bass player Mark Winchester and his band hold court every Sunday.
Local hotel and airline information can be acquired by contacting me at brian.mcbride@vanderbilt.edu.
