Atalanta and I, at the end of a surprise trip to Los Angeles (surprise for me, anyway - for my bday), arrived at LAX to find out that they had overbooked our flight back to NYC and were looking for volunteers to take a later flight. We had passed up a similar opportunity on the flight out to LA (which would have gotten us a 400 voucher and a business class seat on a flight the next day) in order to spend more time with friends, so we were hopeful that this one would be even nearly as good. Ding ding ding! We got a 600 voucher each AND an upgrade to first class later tonight. So we are now chilling at Julius' house (who was kind enough to pick us up) and I write this from the comfort of a hammock on the back porch. Happy birthday to me!

yeah, that. It's all unexpectedly cool. Plus I get to hear Julius play many instruments.

I also get to see all of Journey's awesome baby dresses. They are unexpectedly cute.

One of the other temps working with me this week just happened to be a swing dancer, and one that I'd already met back in Austin before moving to NYC. What are the odds?

Today was a great day! My company (and one of my designs) was featured on Vogue.com for our collaboration with Maria Sharapova (I designed the ballet flats featured in one of the photos). I also found out that said ballet flats sold 150 pairs the first week they were out on the floor!

Also, while flipping through magazines, I saw that we got two more editorial placements for two of my shoes. One style has been in Elle, Marie Claire, and InStyle, and the other has been in Harper's Bazaar, Lucky, and is featured in the Saks fall catalog and in our ad campaign! Woo!

So...you're saying Maria Sharapova didn't design them? I'm shocked...shocked!

That IS very cool!

Say, um, doesn't Yehoodi get some kind of sweet discount on those cute ballet flats? They are beautiful... sigh.

Well.. I do have to give her credit. For her first meeting with us, she prepared about 6 inspiration boards with concepts, ideas, and materials/colors (and I do mean SHE did it.. she made it very clear that SHE had cut out the magazine pictures and did the little thumbnail sketches, and not an assistant). She was very clear with us about what she liked and didn't like. In this day and age of celebrity "collaborations" (which oftentimes amount to someone coming in at the last minute and saying yes or no to things), she was very well prepared and we were all really impressed.

I CAN get you 50 off, but not for another three weeks.. they're trying to test out the styles at full price before employees can use their (sweet) discount.

I bought them at full price ( 138, REALLY not bad for the quality considering comparable ones sell for 250-400) and I have to say they're the most comfortable flats I've ever owned. :D

My mom and I attended a sock hop, and she had a blast! I didn't do a swing-out all night, and I still had a lot of fun because she was enjoying it so much. Also, I wore Brylcreem!

 :guitar: :D

That's so awesome. I was totally kidding, by the way, about the discount, but that's sooo cool that you get one -- and three weeks isn't long to wait at all!

Congrats again on the design and success!

Bought a case of '05 Napa cab. When I opened the box at home, it was the '03 sweetheart vintage. Oh hell yeah.

While waking home from work today, I saw an open door that was always closed before. I step inside and find the biggest vintage costume jewelry trove in town! These guys are the first middlemen - they sell to the dealers who travel to the art deco expo and such.

They sold me all these beauties (yes some are more vintage than others) for 80.

The stick pin doesn't come out very well, but it's an Asian inspired fish dangling pearls from its mouth.

This pin didn't like the flash - the true color is closer to this:

The pickup on my electric violin went out last night at rehearsal...the soldering came off of the input jack. So Naturally, since I have a show today I was kind of freaked out. But my good friend Rod Castro hooked me up with his friends at Carvin and they fixed it for me...no charge! YAY! Now I can play my show at the Key Club and everything will be fine. No surprises tonight!

My boyfriend went to my apartment today while I was at work and he cleaned the entire kitchen. Scrubbed the range and everything. And he left flowers in the vase :D

Same here: I got a 102 out of a 104 rating... but no raise.

I guess I'm glad just to have a job all things considered.
