Boss comes over, drops a hundred dollar bill on my desk and says, "Buy a nice glass of wine the next time you eat at Babbo". Anything cool happening in your neck of the woods? -Eff

So, China Girl and I picked up our new Smart car yesterday and headed out on a roadtrip.
A few hours later, we were on a tiny cobblestone street in Fell's Point, MD (near Bertha's) when I saw a REALLY tiny spot and went for it. We ended up having about three feet to spare too.
A car full of people pulled up as we were getting out of the Smart and all started clapping. The old timer behind the wheel said, "That was amazing! No other car ever could have fit there." I told him we had jsut gotten it and that was the first time we had ever parked it.

It's hard to find a place that validates parking these days, isn't it?

I was doing the bi-daily checking of my website stats today and noticed that one of the links that had brought me a reader looked a little odd. I have a tendancy to check all incoming links just to see what other people are saying.
So I clicked away wondering if a blogger was referencing something I said (which tends to be the case) and found.....
The American Library Association is recommending my site (along with a small few others) as one of their "Book Review Sources" of note. And (There's always an "and") they had included the photo from my header image!
It was super exciting - and I'm totally gushing all over twitter and facebook - finally moving up in the world!

I got a sort of random call from an investment firm downtown that wants to start getting flowers from me on a weekly basis. Not huge but right now anything is good!!

My boss handed out individual Lysol cans, Purell hand sanitizer, and a box of on-the-go Purell hand sanitizer wipes to each of us today. An H1N1/flu survival kit of sorts. If nothing else I think it will help us all be a little more consciencious of our habits and whether or not we're spreading germs (as opposed to that time a few years back when a coworker coughed in my face without any attempt to cover his mouth and just as I was inhaling = I caught his respiratory infection). I have high hopes for staying healthy this season.

Despite having lost my job and of course all the benefits along with it (though thanks to the stimulus package, my cobra is waaay cheap), I just received my usual Metrocard for the next month in the mail. I'm assuming this was taken out of my last paycheck (pre-tax) and it'll be the last one, but I still wasn't counting on getting it to begin with. So bonus!

I just came up with a brilliant idea for an inexpensive wedding, in a beautiful venue, and they have an affordable deposit to hold the date. I hope I like the site in person as much as I like the pictures.

Went to a free concert last night at MSG. 5.5 hour concert. Lineup included Crosby, Stills and Nash with guests Jackson Browne and Bonny Rait; Stevie Wonder with John Beck (when they did Very Superstitious...wow), Paul Simon, Simon and Garfunkle, and some guitar player named Bruce closed it out after bringing out Billy Joel and John Foggerty with a whole bunch of others I'm forgetting (just remembered Sting and Smokey Robinson made appearances too).
Free.
It wasn't completely unexpected but a lot of the drop in guests were and the distance to the action was. They were obstructed seats but the last set completely made it worth it (plus they had big screen TVs set up all over).
Still buzzing!
Do you know how awkward it is to have a political argument with a naked man?

I've been plugging along at watching Star Trek for the first time and today, in line at the cobbler, saw a comment on twitter that looked a lot like something I had written earlier in the day on my blog.
The link was to Wil Wheaton's blog where he wrote up a post about my project of watching ST:TNG and reviewing his book about his experiences on set in tandem.

This falls under the category, "Unexpectedly Cool Stuff That Happened to MY HUSBAND Today", but it still counts because it's awesome.
He's a lawyer trying to transition into screenwriting. He spends every weekend and every vacation writing, pretty much for the past five years since we met. He's written several feature (movie) screenplays, a couple of books (nonfiction), and a few spec scripts for different TV shows as well as a pilot of his own. Nothing has come of any of these so far yet. It takes a LONG time and a lot of legwork to get your book published or your screenplay made, as you might guess.
But he decided a while ago that he wants to write for TV. So in June he applied to a couple of writing fellowships with the major networks. The NBC one already passed and he didn't get it, but he got an email today from the Disney/ABC fellowship saying that he got through the first round of cuts! He has to send references and another essay by Monday, and I guess the next round is interviews in LA? I'm super psyched for him, because even if nothing more comes of this, it is still great confirmation that he is on the right track. This fellowship gets THOUSANDS of applicants for eight spots, so he is feeling really good! Woo!

That IS really cool! Very exciting! Besides the allure of your witty writing, it must be a nice change for him from the usual fanboys that have memorized every iota of his shows.

This happened yesterday, but I don't care. I was having trouble with my wave editor, and was thinking about how my version of Cubase should have had a master EQ. I went looking for one, and found that I had already downloaded one, as well as a limiter. Both made all the difference in the world.
