For those who haven't seen me lately, I've been growing my hair out quite a bit lately. A couple of months ago I started using a new shampoo/conditioner made specifically for curly hair by a VERY high-end salon which is basically THE place to go for curly hair. I'm not exaggerating at all when I say that the difference between this shampoo and any other I've used is stunning. Unfortunately there's no way I can afford to actually go to the salon since the MEN'S haircuts start at $100 (I've been told women can expect to spend $250), especially given my current financial situation.
Today at work a customer came by wearing a Devachan t-shirt. I pointed to it and said, "I love their shampoo!" It took her a second to register what I was saying, but then she saw my hair and said, "Oh, you do use it!" I then went into a quick rant about how amazed I was when I started using it, and mentioned that it's too bad I can't afford to actually go to the salon. That was when she cut me off.
"That's not true!" Turns out she's the manager. Then she said something about needing people for training or modeling... I don't recall exactly because it was so quick and my next customer was already coming up... But basically it came down to her saying she'd take care of it, writing her email address on her card, and insisting I contact her.
No idea where it will lead, but just goes to show it's worth talking to random people! :)

I spent all summer developing an idea for an open source code program for one of the computer science student clubs of which I'm an officer. I was kinda nervous about the idea because I don't know of anything quite like it and some of the people with whom I discussed the idea not very supportive.
I pitched the plan to the officers of the student club and they thought it was an awesome idea and expanded it on the spot! Yay, support and validation!

Heading to a dinner party of my wife's friend, I noticed a LOT of LEO and a tent setup up Sullivan Street.
Turns out Obama was minutes away. Saw his limo but the real fun was the crescendo of security activity leading up to him arriving. Barricades being moved around, cops outta nowhere, secret service, various suits, a very low flying circling helicopter, spotters and sharpshooters, a guy on a roof with weird satellite dish thingie, police screaming at residents to get off their balconies and back into their apartments, and the occasion spoiler brat and skateboarder who felt they needed to cross Houston moments before the effin' President of the United States and that the one cop they were talking to had the power to make that happen. No, not the band.
oooo, how exciting!
I'll definitely try their stuff on your recommendation.
And please let me know if they need a long haired female!
I got my haircare from Tony and Guy all through college by doing that. They used to dress me up like a Robert Palmer girl and pretend to give me a perm, then say, "doesn't it look natural?!" to the audience.

I wound up not following through on the free/discounted haircut thing. I've heard through several sources that while they're still the big name in curly hair, they've been riding on their reputation for a while and aren't as good as they used to be. Also, generally when places have these "educational" specials, one aspect is usually that you have to accept whatever haircut they want to give you, rather than the one you want.
Instead, I have a friend with hair like mine (who's actually been to Devachan before), and he has a guy who he says is much better. Equadorian, does "vintage style" haircuts and all that, and actually listens to requests and gives advice. The two of us are going in on Wednesday. I'll report back.
But yeah, I still stand behind their shampoo. Awesome stuff. You also might want to check out how they recommend you use it. I've heard slightly different versions, including that you should only use it once or twice a week (without conditioner) and then condition every other day. Also that it's better to dry your hair with a t-shirt or paper towels than with a regular towel. I've been experimenting with different things, but I can say I would rather use nothing than anyone else right now (like when I'm showering at the gym or something). I think they should have called it "Boing."

Yesterday, I was accepted into the top-ranked advertising school in the country (possibly in the world). Classes start in a week and a half. I can attend if the loans come through in time. It will be total chaos, studying before classes begin, moving to Virginia, finding a place to live... Then, two years of chaotic school in a very demanding program. Looks very exciting, though. I'm stoked!
Unexpectedly cool stuff that happened 2 u 2day
