I was on the phone with a sales rep, today, and she told me that a customer wanted to change some of their advertising material. I pulled up the material, and my brain froze and I had trouble speaking for a moment. The advertising they had was full of the word, "Soflex," which I knew as the South Florida Lindy Exchange. It turned out to mean something else for the customer, but it felt completely surreal for me.

we got the blood test back today to determine if the reason the baby in my previous pregnancy had down's was because of a fluke or if it was genetic. if the results came back as genetic, then it would be significantly harder for us to have a healthy child in our next pregnancies.
i got a call today from the genetic counselor - and it's NOT genetic!! so our chances of having a healthy child will be the same as anyone else my age (i'll be 36 next pregnancy so it'll be 1 in 216 for the possibility of down's)!

A project manager here at work just sent the following email to my boss, and my boss's boss (names have been changed for re-posting):
Mugsy has been receiving a lot of "good press" with the Counting On-Loop line of business for going the extra step in helping a "challenging" LOB solve their technical issues. Not only did Mugsy find a missing service request that the LOB misplaced, he is helping them better understand the service request process to alleviate future misunderstandings.
This has really made my job easier as it is building good-will and promoting a sense of professionalism and competency. I just though you all would like to know.

I became a first-time aunt today! (Somewhat unexpected because the baby came early.) Anna Cecilia, 7 lbs 6 oz. Beautifully-formed facial features, tons of dark hair, and a wonderful ability to calm herself down from a crying fit.
I was asked to be the Godmother, too!
Mom and baby are doing fine, and Auntie Emmy is beside herself!

I went to see my grandparents today and they asked me to stay for dinner.
Then after dinner they had all these old photos they found cleaning out the attick 2 weeks ago that they showed me. I have seen pictures of my mom growing up and things from the 70s but these were pictures of my grandparents parents! and of my grandma when she was 3 and 8, it was amazing to think that someday I will be a grandmother too [surreal!!]
and will be showing my grandkids pictures of me as a child they will shocked to see.
Then it made me very sad to know that my grandkids won't know my grandparents and how amazing they are or even my parents just like I didnt know my granparents' parents or grandparents so it has enspired me to do a family history!
I used to think that was a lot of work but now that I got to hear from my grandparents about their siblings and family growing up, it was completely fascinating and seems like such a shame to let that info go to waste.
Even just Names, where they came from, what they did, who they were, something they remembered about the person's character or an event, how they died. FASCINATING.
If they had more info on earlier generations I would have LOVED to hear it, so i realize now if I don't write it down now whille they can remember, my grandkids will never know who their great great great great [4 generations of people] were.
:)
[ps. no,i don't have kids yet, lol, but you know what i'm saying......hopefully]
What's scarier is that if I hadn't asked, I would not have known. In 2 hours, I know things my mom didn't know. So, if my grandkids don't ask, are they not going to know the amazing generations that came before them? No, I am going to make a family history so they know who they are and where they came from. :)
Unexpected awesome pictures, Information, connection with my family, and inspiration-- what a great night!!

Ravendancer, it really is awesome ... I have photos of my great-grandparent's grandparents ... and I have copies of birth, marriage and death certificates from the early 1800s (in the days when an unmarried woman, regardless of her age, was called a "spinster"!!)
I switch between two software packages (depending on what functionality the new release has): Legacy and Family Tree Maker. Start "interviewing" your grandparents now, even if you don't use these programs, so that their stories will live on for always!

Wow, that's really cool, thanks! I didn't think of doing it on the computer, but that Would make it easier to copy, access, and add to. I'm sure my brother and 2 cousins would want to see it as well since we all have the same grandparents and line, I'll look into those programs....

this was actually on friday, but....
i finally got a job offer! and what's even better is that they said that i was so much better than the other candidates that they didn't need to do a second interview. :)
i'm so happy to get out of this job. the people are really great, but i've been here since april and they still don't have anything for me to do - maybe 10-15 hours worth of work a week. it's all low level assistant stuff (reimbursements for travel & business meetings, balance the budgets, etc). i have no projects of my own and just wait until someone gives me stuff to do. it took my boss 2 months of me asking for projects before he finally asked me to re-arrange his file drawer and empty out his recycling bin. :green: plus, i've decided i don't want to work in development - i don't like the "it's all about the money" attitude. i appreciate how much development is needed in business - it's just not for me.
now, i'm back to working with middle & high school student programs, which is what i did before. this group is a little different - instead of working with "at risk" students, i'll be working with gifted students. however, it's all basically the same - wanting them to reach their potential to achieve their goals.

So about a month ago I got the notice that my lease on my apartment was up. The new lease rate was increased about 75 dollars. Right after I got the notice about the lease increasing I called Lake Mirror Tower here in Lakeland.
I have wanted to live there ever since I first moved here. They didn't have anything availible, but they took my number and said that they would call when something became availible. I thought nothing about it, and decided to cut back and make ends meet. I really like where I live now (it is nice and quiet/peaceful). I had also just got a sizeable raise, so that would have made things easier.
This was the plan. . . until today at lunch. . .
I checked my VM on lunch, and there was a message from Wendy letting me know that something had opened up. I rushed out to grab some lunch, got back and called. Turns out someone is vacating at the end of November (perfect timing for me).
I got the application e-mailed to me. I filled it out, and put it aside to finish later. Got to thinking, and figured I should go ahead and get the ball rolling on it. Called my boss, got two hours off, and headed up there.
Got the tour (un-freaking-believable place), checked out the gym, and saw the amazing roof-top terrace (swoon, my favorite). Handed in my application, application fee, and submitted my credit report. I was pretty much guaranteed the apartment by Wendy (who is my new best friend).
This is an amazing apartment, great amendities, perfect location (less than 4 miles from where I work, and within walking distance to the library, bead shop, and best pizza ever), and it has that fabulous roof-top terrace. It is right on Lake Mirror and I think I have a good view of botanical gardens too.
Came back here, typed up my 60 day notice, submitted it (along with the previous renter's reference), and came back here to enjoy the rest of the day off.
I don't mean to gush, but man, I am so happy. This is the dream apartment. I am doing backflips inside. I don't know if I can wait the two months to move. Yippie!!!

not sure who read the opposite thread (unexpectedly bad stuff), but i talked with the thorasic surgeon this morning and he doesn't think the mass found in my chest (located between my lungs near the thymus) is cancer! :D he's not sure what it is, so he's going to show the ct scan around to get more opinions and let us know in a few weeks. they may need to do a biopsy or surgically remove it, but it also may just be scanning it occasionally to keep an eye on it (which would mean that pregnancy plans are on hold :( ).
i'm glad i got more treats than tricks in that meeting! :)

I walked out my front door and a handsome man was set up to make me lunch for only 3. I ordered a fried chicken sandwich. He said he was making it from scratch so it would take 20 minutes. I said it was no problem because he could just knock when it was done. Let me tell you, my jaw dropped when I saw this huge, homemade fried chicken breast with a thick slice of red tomato on top. This sandwich was so beyond perfect. It was the first thing I have ever tasted here in SoFL that really reminded me of my Mom's southern cooking. I've inhaled it. Happy belly.

Co worker sent me a link for a foamy rant <3

fyi lots of profantiy
I fixed my gear shift linkage with tweezers, a screwdriver, and some electrical tape. I feel so...empowered.
The real part will be arriving in a few days.
Now, if my roommate will give me a ride, I can get my car OUT of the parking lot.
A coworker brought in a bottle of wine that she bought for me from the wine trip she went on this past weekend. Sweet! :D
So now you have something to wash down those skittles you had for lunch?

My Boss just treated me to a Starbucks cappuccino.
Plus, I just got a dear friend a sweetheart, full time gig. Solid pay, benefits, the whole nine yards.

Discovered that a plane ticket I thought was cancelled long ago...wasn't. So, I'm going to Maui (Hawaii) in October, for free!
Make sure to go hang out in Paia. It's such a chill surfer/international little town with gorgeous beaches.
Also, my hotel room is being paid for. For the entire 8 days / 7 nights. :D
I just got a visit from one of the supervisor's on this floor. After some conversation she says:
"Oh, do you know Mark <name I can't remember>?"
No.
"He is <position I can't remember>, Mary and I were talking and we think we need to introduce you to him. He would be good networking for you."
Hmmmmmm, I could be reading entirely too much into things . But it sounded like I might be getting an inter-office hook-up.
Don't know how I feel about it, but I think regardless it is pretty cool, and unexpected. :)
Or not. However just about the only thing I talk about with this person is either hair, clothes, her gay friends, losing weight, or me being gay.
