Boss comes over, drops a hundred dollar bill on my desk and says, "Buy a nice glass of wine the next time you eat at Babbo". Anything cool happening in your neck of the woods? -Eff

I've been in a foul mood all week about my career situation (namely, that it's not moving forward despite a lot of effort on my part.) By the end of the day today I was at my wit's end. On my way out the door, I bumped into one of our directors. He asked how things were going, I told him how frustrated I was, and we had a really great 15-minute chat about my career potential.
I think I really needed to hear someone with influence reassure me that my skills were valued. It helped a lot.
If you are a supervisor or manager, tell your brightest and best that they are valued, and why. And do it often. That's what keeps them around.

Well, after months of being in a horrible job situation and not thinking I have a way out, there is light at the end of the tunnel. The temp place that first got me the position said that they would beable to get me something really quick especially come the new year. So goodbye horrible evil job, hello healthy productive job environment with supportive noncritical coworkers.

A friend of mine I hadn't seen in a while came over with a bottle of wine. When we finished that, we went out to a favorite Middle Eastern dive of mine in downtown B-town.

I GOT THE JOB!!
I've been trying to move into a management or administrative position in my company. I've been burning out on direct care (job coach for people with developmental disabilities) for a long time, and have been itching to use my skills in a broader capacity, while still sustaining my passion to support people with disabilities.
Finally, my 2 frustrating years of initiating and taking on new projects, meeting with directors, building a good reputation with key people in the company, and interviewing for many positions (some of which I knew I would not get, but did it to sell myself to hiring managers), have EFFING PAID OFF!
I will be a Program Assistant, helping streamline the paperwork process for the service teams, and providing clerical support to the directors. It is a lateral move from my current position, but with more opportunities to advance. Woo-hoo!

Broken waterpipe in the Industrial Park means that the water has been shutoff, so we got to leave early. Out of the office two and a half hours early to watch this week's Studio 60 episode. (Thanks bt-ers in Canada!)

Quoted from "Little One" I got my apartment rental deposit back!
Me too!
I also got my W2 last night. Filed my taxes about 30 minutes later. I'm getting back a pretty good chunk (XBox 360 here I come!!).
Then I get in the office this morning and find out that my Grandmother who passed away two weeks ago left me a CD. Nothing huge, but a nice something that will let me pay off a good portion of my Visa card and have a little fun too.

ok I don't know if this really belongs in this thread, but it goes under really unusual things that happened today.
I have a small claims court date on Thurs for this a who hasn't paid me, and I got a call today from the Peoples court to see if I would like to do this on their show!
The answer was a big no way in hell.

Actually - it's not that bad idea. You're guaranteed payment (don't have to chase after them) and if you wind up owing money you don't pay it out of pocket. Plus no one watches that show anymore :D

i've been having a lot of health issues (internal b/c external i feel fine). i recently had to have an MRA (similar to an MRI, but with an extra piece of equipment over the face to make things more claustrophobic!) b/c of a neck pulsation i've had in my left ear/neck since the pregnancy. i was called in last week to do it all over again b/c they thought they saw something that they needed to clarify before giving me results.
i just got a call from the dr and he said that everything's ok & looks normal! the neck pulse thing will either eventually go away on its own or i'll just get used to it (which still sometimes wakes me up at night after 8 months). i'll take that minor annoyance over having something else that i have to worry about! :)

I'm playing the Governor's ball after the Oscars on the 25th. I'm stoked. I can't wait. It's going to be SUCH a cool gig. Sometimes living in hollywood isn't too bad...not too bad at all...

I danced with someone at Glen Echo whilst wearing cashmere. Wow.
Apparently I have buckets and buckets of personal time that I haven't used all year. So I am taking the rest of the week off, and next Tuesday too.
Yippie!!

Got blood work results back today. Everything is A-OK. Blood sugars and cholesterol levels are normal. Kidney, liver, thyroid function are all normal.
I had the perverse desire for a steak, cigar and big glass of bourbon afterwards.
