So I don't want this topic to be cruel or making fun of anyone, but I wanted everyone to share any videos they come across online of people that dance to swing music, but what the're doing is something makes you wonder where they heck they learned to dance like they do . . .

Obviously you've never been to a country bar.
A College Ballroom Club's Swing routine, gotta love that ready-set-go, start intro:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=yEvOWwDcTN8
Ballroom style West Coast Swing, god I hate that arm flapping lead and follows jumping the 1. At least they didn't do the stereotypical ballroom WCS swivels.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=bgRDCQkKe8E
And some more giant arm leads in this fine example of ballroom East Coast Swing, dude tried to lead some of those ballroom WCS swivels, fortunately the follower didn't do them:

These people are dancing to neo swing. I think they are supposed to be doing ECS, but I do not see a single triple triple rockstep in the whole thing, just a few barely recognizable moves and a whole lot of I don't know what...

Looks like a fusion of Swing Kids choreography and the Gap commercial.
The last clip I posted, according to the announcer, the guy was the woman's instructor. Not necessarilly beginner. The WCS couple were also dancing too smooth to be beginner, I see (monthly) that same arm wavy style of lead in some "experienced" ballroom dancers, including Ron Montez on So You Think You Can Dance. It's part of the style, I think it looks silly, contrived and distracting.

Huh. That is pretty bizarre.
But whatever they are doing, they do have tons of great energy/pep and really dance the thing, especially during the hip-hopish part.

I'll give them credit for actually doing stuff that fits the music and they were way more into the music than the ballroom clips I posted, at least based on what I heard before sticking an ice pick in my ears.

Quoted from "Lowkey_Lindy_George" Regarding the very first post and video:
It seems to me that the music is pretty much secondary (if needed at all) for these folks.
Which begs the question: When does dancing end and "just doin stuff while music happens to be playin'" begins?
If you ain't dancin' to the music, you ain't lindy hoppin'.
I think in general you can dance whenever you like to whatever you want, but the act of lindy hopping requires dancing to the music. And even if you are dancing with no music...there is still music inside you that propells you, even if it just a beat that somebody is keeping for you by shouting or clapping or something- there is still emotion/music/energy there.

I giggled damn hard when I saw the title of this thread. :-D I think "dancing 'the swing'" is an absolutely perfect way to describe people who are, well, they're doing something to swing music, but I have no idea what it is.
I shall henceforth refer to that type of dancing as "dancing 'the swing'" whenever I see it. :)

Quoted from "asane" Aside from the Texas video, I'd say those videos are just examples of beginners dancing, not necessarily a wonky or unrecognizable normal style.

This makes my head hurt trying to figure it out . . .
Oh, my.
Recently, at a party, some guy (who was apparently trying to have something to talk to me about) did some silly and annoying antics (sort of stomping around) that I was apparently supposed to recognize as swing. I was just confused, since the thing he was doing looked nothing like swing... maybe this is where he got his ideas from :o

There is actually a ballroom teacher here on campus who teaches "the swing." You can almost hear the quotes when she talks about it. The basic is "step, step, push-pull." Guess who faked a wrist injury when she taught it?
And this when the other ballroom teacher actually brought Frankie Manning in for a workshop!

Our social dance teacher on campus teaches "lindy hop" (note the quotes cause its closer to beginner ECS) but she doesn't even describe the basic as step, step, rock-step..... its stomp, stomp rock-step.
my partner and I occasionally taught some basic lindy for the class and she kept trying to correct us and pretty much made an fecking mess of things. that was painful, gotta tell you.
That girl is seriously putting her life in danger.. that was very painful to watch. Sadly, I've taken a few aerials workshop classes, but if you asked me if I "flew in the air" while I dance or if I do any aerials, I would say no.
But pretty much, yeah, I think that is what most people think swing dancing is. Aerials or some version of the same concept is always the first thing people ask me about swing dancing.
