"Intense swing dancing" you really have to stick around till, like 0:27
The saddest thing is that I've been dancing for 6 yrs and I can't do any of those aerials, thus I must be a really bad dancer :p

I should show this to my students: how not to dance. Man, that's a great example of the saying I always use, "at the end of every straight arm is a jerk". My shoulders are sore just watching.

My apologies if this has already been posted, but I love the hand movements. I kept wondering if he was handing her little training treat incentives for tricks done right.
So the guy she's dancing with...did he do the choreography? The aerials were perfectly executed the problem was only with the dancing . Did dancing with the stars fail on this one and fail to hire a lindy hopper to choreograph?
I don't find the dancing all that horrific..the couple that never landed an aerial before starting another one were awful..but have potential.. That clip looked like a bunch of ppl who are generally working on learning the dance.
My complaint is with the title.."Brag Circle" and the choice of song.

This is like bad WCS, not lindy. She does look like a little dog trotting around for treats, doesn't she?

They just trusted that all their pros just knew and could choreograph Lindy, they didn't bring anyone in. It was frustrating. They announced it and I expected nick williams to show up like in so you think you can dance,... no such luck.
She is also an olympic gymnast, i feel like the ariels should not be hard for her.

I believe this video attempting to teach Lindy Hop Swing Out qualifies for this thread: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LsT_GVV5OQ8&NR=1
Following a link to the studio, I found an intriguing list of songs considered as suitable "Music for Triple Time East Coast Swing:"
<
ul> Joe Bonamassa Wild about you baby
James Brown Doin' it to Death
John Fogarty Down on the Corner
John Fogarty Rockin' all over the world
Steven Seagul She dat pretty
Johnny Lang Rack 'em up
Johnny Lang Matchbox
Bob Segar Her Strut
Bob Segar Mary Lou
Bob Segar Old time Rock N' Roll
Rolling Stones Start me up
Weather Girls It's raining men
ZZ Top La Grange
ZZ Top Tush [/list:u:af114bc39e]
source: http://www.dancehamptonroads.com/1601/10557.html
I look forward to swinging out to ZZ Top's Tush real soon. Especially with that fantastic upright posture and slightly wiggly lead hip action.
I couldn't find any other mentions of Lindy Hop on studio's site, but it basically looks to me like a ballroom-focused studio just decided they could teach some Lindy.

It's still Lindy though. There's a lot more "the swing" or "the lindy" stuff out there.

heh, this is actually dancesport, of the "very ICKY sexual painting in the corner" as Maisie mentioned over in the vblx thread. (i wasn't aware of the painting, but i'll be sure to look now!)
the lindy hoppers do use the facility for events big enough to overflow our usual venues, but yeah... as far as i know, there aren't any regular dances or lessons advertised to the lindy community there. and i promise, we don't borrow their swing music playlists!

They're clapping on 1 & 3 to BBVD.
Oh sweet lord. That's my scene and our weekly dance night. Thankfully, it appears that I was not there that evening, or Sean (jazzvibes on Yehoodi) probably would have grabbed me. A few things I feel like I must mention:
The "core" group of our dancers have been around since the late 90's, and that song was long ago established as our "brag circle" song, and regretfully never changed. However, that evening was likely the first time it had been played in months, if not years.
This was not representative our regular weekly dance, which is usually a mix of lindy, WCS, latin and ballroom, but was rather a "big band" theme night hence the outfits and music.
Of the main couple dancing, the guy is admittedly stuck in 1998 with his dancing, and is of the "the more aerials the better" mindset. The follow has been working on her dancing and has finally moved out of her rut. For years, people refused to learn anything new, because bystanders always cheered when they threw each other up in the air, so why bother? Thankfully people have started taking lessons again and have been focusing more on technique.

BBVD was playing a small club in Boston a few years ago, I caught their last set and the band was clapping on 1,3,5 and 7. It confirmed BBVD doesn't swing.

I agree - I felt physical pain with this one.
2 videos that DO NOT QUALIFY for this thread:
Neither of these are "The Swing" and so they do not qualify to be posted sadly.
C/O Swifty's Twitter feed - Rock Robbin. If only they had written swing. SO close to kosher.
Behold the satanic lascivious nature of blues dancing, I mean "Blues Dancing", I mean dance-blues.

Ow, Ow, Ow...I can't seem to get past :30 on these videos without some outburst!
Does anyone else also feel squeamish watching someone dance in uniform that is not in the service at this time? :dunno:

Brought to You in HD, by the fine people of Youtube.
Now this must be why people keep asking me if the swing dancing is some "religious thing".
You know, honestly, I kinda liked that thing they did from 0:41 - 0:48. The sorta tandem spinny thing. Then it just turned into gymnastics.
I laf.

Good to hear things are turning a corner, Toni.
The woman at 2:25 looks like she did a Charlotte Greenwood full split. Cool. Not sure b/c it is dartk and I can't see her other leg.
Hey look! An interview with the inventor of the Lindy Hop!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQXHGxLe1JA
Amazing that someone who created a dance in the 1920's looks so young!
It says he invented "Lindy Hop", is that to Lindy Hop what "Blues Dancing" is to Blues Dancing?
Of course he invented the Lindy Hop-- his name is Rob Lind!
