So I don't want this topic to be cruel or making fun of anyone, but I wanted everyone to share any videos they come across online of people that dance to swing music, but what the're doing is something makes you wonder where they heck they learned to dance like they do . . . (i.e. unique…

Quoted from "Shanabanana" Hey look! An interview with the inventor of the Lindy Hop!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQXHGxLe1JA
Of course he invented the Lindy Hop-- his name is Rob Lind!
The video creator altered the description to explain that is intended to be a "mock commercial" by Lindy Hop's "inventor". He put the quotes around the word inventor. Apparently he's just making an example of his video production skills.

True. I really do like the left-to-right Suzy Qs. I also really liked "In the Mood" until it became THE 'definitive' swing tune. Kind of like 'Go Daddy-O.' I'm so sick of hearing that one.

Quoted from "aircooled66" Let's see--
1. Arthur Murray
2. "World Famous Lindy Hop!"
3. Audience clapping on 1 and 3
4. One swingout.
Yup, this qualifies.

This is hilarious, the pretzel and boradway(sic) charleston crack me up everytime.
I remember seeing this awhile back, and I'm pretty sure the pretzel jam was intentional. Possibly even a parody by some really good instructors. Although, I have to question the video editor's choice of music. BBVD? Really?!

That's what makes it so amazing. And Doug Stilton is the one who produced the video so given the content I'm pretty sure the music choice was intentional.

FYI, there's a reason this link doesn't work anymore. I flagged it! Bwahaha! But seriously, "This is Lindy Hop. It's 6 counts" And then she's does 20s Charleston? On an instructional website? Please.
I don't think that is really bad enough to qualify.... its not really lindy, but it isn't bad, compared to the rest of the stuff in this thread.
And look how cute they are with their matching swishy skirts, colored trousers, and bleyers!
I think it qualifies as one of the best choreographed and best looking version of "the swing".

Quoted from "swinginstyle" sad to say, i used to be on this group. And, in fact, I know the routine from which they recycled for this song. omg. thanks for posting this.
Mama mia! Who is that Madonna on the right hand side? An Italian goddess, yes? She make the Lindy a thing from heaven!

It's cheesy and kind of lame, but it's not really "the swing". I have no idea why they'd go to the trouble of doing a bunch of classic Lindy moves but not actually do THE BASIC. But it's still recognizably ECS and the moves are pretty well executed (even though they waaay overdo the kicks).

DWTS seems to make similar choreography choices when doing "Lindy". I'm sure they both believe it gets them more bang for the buck (better result with less skill), and they're probably right (ECS looks better at lower skill, it just won't take you as far as Lindy can). But as you say it is ECS, so doesn't that mean the swing out isn't the basic, a 6 count in closed is? :)

Lindy moves Lindy basic = Lindy
Lindy moves - Lindy basic ECS basic = does not compute
Why not just learn the swing out and not look lame?
Probably because a swing out at 220 bpm (the tempo of that song) is a hell of a lot harder then anything they did do.
It's a fast, high energy song and routine. Fast, high energy swing outs would have looked awesome...but they would be much harder to do. Chances are attempting them would have just resulted in awkward, low energy swingouts if they got through them at all, killing the energy and showmanship of the routine. They made the best from what they had to work with and IMHO did a pretty good job of it.
Perspective must be kept in mind: This routine is only "lame" to dance geeks like ourselves. It's a fantastic routine to everyone else. Lets face it, it's much better dancing then most dancers at Lindy venues will ever manage to achieve.

I wouldn't say that's fair. Not everyone wants to perform, they just like the social dance aspect.
I'm the first to say this is a great routine, but I still think it qualifies as "the swing", just as much as the dance scenes from the movie Swing Kids.
They capture the energy of the dance, but they are meant to be performance pieces, and don't capture Lindy Hop in the way that we would want it to be displayed to the public.

At least it's reasonably accurate. Could have been a lot worse.
"Use everything in your body to accentuate what you hear in the music." I may have to remember that.
So that guy invented it and then Ray Bolger named it ? ;-)

Don't forget "In the Mood" and the toe-up Broadway style Suzy-Q's!
At least they tried, it's not quite as bad as the arm yanking stuff that usually qualifies.
