Videos of people dancing "the swing"

So I don't want this topic to be cruel or making fun of anyone, but I wanted everyone to share any videos they come across online of people that dance to swing music, but what the're doing is something makes you wonder where they heck they learned to dance like they do . . . (i.e. unique…

Oh, goodness...lots of these videos look like they could have been filmed here. But, it is the hordes of hschoolers that fund the one venue we have. And some of them do grow up to realize that there is more to 'the swing' than having your elbow pulled out and popped back in at the end of each step. BTW, the best defence i have found for the pretzel is to lock my arms in 90degrees and not budge them for dear life.(you have to know the lead will lead the move for this to work) Which funnily has lead to quite a few newbies saying..."no, you have to swing your arms from side-to-side!" I tell them I have rotar-cuff injuries (which I do!) and the wild swinging of arms hurts me.
Sounds like you should come back to orlando IMO.
Albie, the last time I had the pretzel attempted on me was at the UCF dance!! He tried three times with 'the hand waving behind his back for me to grab" and when I ignored it 3 times, he grabbed both my hands and yanked me into it!! All of my buddies said I looked horrified ! Ps: you come up here!! Bring your crew, we'll have a party!

Ew. :(

Well, I don't do the move, if thats any better :D

I'll have to look into going to Pensacola sometime. I'm planning on going to Tally May 5th weekend but perhaps I should cut it short and hit up Pensacola as well...

Oh, come on. That's just mean. If we're going to defend women as being perfectly normal in one thread because they have big boobs, let's not make fun of them as abnormal in another for having big muscles, big shoulders, and small hips.

If she says she's a woman, just give her the respect of treating her as a woman when you refer to her. :-?

Eeeep! That's my scene!

On the other hand, I remember learning a lot of those very moves as "difficult" East Coast things right at the same time I was taking a lot of lindy classes (and really sticking with them and working hard), so because of the similarity of moves (though the particular style of the rock-step is much more extended in the arms than what I happened to learn & do at the time), I see it and smile and see myself in it. :)

(Except in those rock step arms. Boy, do they look painful.)

It reminded me, somewhat, of the "waltz" scene in Top Secret.

Ah, how far we've come from the 1990's . . . single-step ECS, zoot suits, wingtips, tommy guns . . .

(warning, Steve Lucky and Carmen Getit are not responsible for their appearance in this video)

Part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uz6ZPi-ko7c Part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dekfyzPMQ6k Part 3: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5kyUz-WRnss

. . . what ever happened to "Work That Skirt" anyways?

The backstabber ... lol:, I'll have to remember that really intuitive lead i

No idea what happened to the group although there is an entertaining article on the SF swing scene in 1999: The Politics of Dancing

I had to stop watching that half way through. Sadly, you see a lot of that. maybe it's my imagination, but usually with very young kids doing the dancing... sorry, throwing here there and everywhere.

Whatever floats their boats I guess, but Swing Dance?

This thread has become kind of snobby. Leave the newbie dancers alone... the kids, etc. What's funny is the old people who dance like crap and call themselves "SENSATIONS" and stuff like that. But, people who just post themselves practicing at 2am or they post the local community talent show clips are not interesting, nor is it interesting to criticize their dancing. All you come across as is snobby.

I'm just sayin.

It's true, the point isn't to make fun of people who are beginners . . . or any one for that matter.

It's actually meant as a friedly poke at the broad term that "swing dancing" covers in our society, especially to those that are unfamiliar with lindy hop, balboa, shag, and charleston.

But I also think that appropriate videos include those of someone putting themselves on a stage, or victums of a dance class from a teacher who really doesn't know anything about swing dancing, as long as we recognize it's not the dancers fault, mearly the people that taught them.

After all, we all had to start some where, and I'm sure I'm not the only one with a zoot suit skeleton in my closet!

Oh hey the "kids" do amazing things. Things I wouldn't even think to attempt. More power to them. However, I (myself, personally, burn me at a stake if you will) have a problem with "Swing" dance that it all throws and no actual dancing.

Heck, even Hellzapoppin' has swingouts...

I dunno if this was posted either. Yet another "swing routine" sans jazz music. I especially like the "hey!" jumps.

This isn't bad swing- just bad floorcraft. Please keep children leashed at all times.
