Quoted from "TerpLndyHpr" I went through this whole thread and could find no example of the Ithaca Jump Swing. So I decided to add one myself. http://www.rso.cornell.edu/swing/Media/sweetheart07.mov
Watch carefully and you might catch a glimpse of it. Also watch for a follower's head going really close to the floor.
Definitely some skill. The single person clapping on the odd counts in the beginning is pretty entertaining, though :)

I normally don't like to put up peoople that are just beginners, because, hey, they don't know any better (I will normally post something because of what they write as the discription or they do something that just comes out of left field).

I'm not sure the second one had enough actual dancing to count.
I just don't have words for the last one, well other than "fabulous"i. It looks like the girl is totally stoned, they guy looks like he snorted some coke after chugging a bottle of Schnapps shortly before hitting the dance floor.
Any idea if the dude is related to Kevin Van Meter?

Oh my word. Ya know, it's like Rik said on the talk show - it's not about being a beginner and not knowing - It's that you're willing to do a public exhibition of yourself swing dancing and post the video to the internet that makes you a worthy subject of mocking.
Seriously. Almost hit the "flag as inappropriate". That_was_awful. I feel like ashamed or dirty

I, for one, am thankful that there's somebody trolling YouTube for new bad ECS clips to make fun of. I've been following this thread religiously for over two months now. People dancing off the beat to Jump, Jive & Wail, flailing and jerking each other around -- it just never gets old! What cracks me up is that they are so oblivious to how much they suck and their music sucks. But even though they suck, they appear to be having fun, which is ironic, because they suck so much that they drive most Yehoodites to tears.
But not me! Au contraire, if I ever need to cheer myself up, I just go revisit this thread. Seeing how much they suck is such an ego boost! Especially if they are high school kids -- nothing delights me more than making fun of high schoolers. (For that reason, I think Ms. Choy should focus on teaching swing exclusively. Bad ballroom isn't nearly as much fun to watch as the swing.)
Truly, Capt Morgan, you make this world a better place.

um, thanks?
I'd like to add two things. First I don't troll youtube (trolling implys being cruel to the video poster, which I don't do). Secondly, I don't make fun of the dancers (most of the time), normally it's something funny they have put in their discription of the dance, or the fact that they are put up on stage in a public forum as professionals, or their choreographer/teacher for the complete lack of knowledge about the dance.
I prefer to think of this thread as a commentary on how our society actually views swing dancing. There is a substantial ignorance about lindy hop to a lay person, hence all of the videos in this thread.

Hahaha, that's my high school! And Ms. Choy is my old swim coach! I didn't realize she was teaching the ballroom gym class now (she's a great swim coach, but dancing...?). If the class is the same as it was 7 years ago, they learn the basic step and a couple of turns and variations for cha cha, swing, waltz and tango, focusing on each dance for maybe 3 weeks. For the final dance, everybody picks a partner and a dance style out of a hat and and has find or make up new moves to choreograph a whole song. It was kind of a big deal and you'd see lots of kids practicing in the hallways after school. I had to do "At the Hop" and I remember back leading my partner a lot cause he couldn't remember everything. I'm just glad nobody had digital cameras back then...

These clips showcase a relatively good swing sense compared to others (like Alex and Nikko...ummmm, i think i need a shoulder reco just after watching it!)
This clip is from Aussie Dancing with the Stars - Natalie is the professional, Kouta (Anthony Koutoufides) is an Australian Rules footballer. They learnt this in a couple of weeks so it is pretty well done - choreographed by Swing Patrol. We are actually performing this in a couple of weeks time for a bit of fun. It did a bit to raise the Lindy profile in Australia! Nice to see two people who are considered as very fit, puffing after doing the performance too!

We have a routine, to the same song actually, that has no swingouts in it. It was originally designed for a group of dancers (whose swingouts and triple steps needed a lot of work) to pick it up and perform it in 3 weeks. It wouldn't have made sense to put swingouts in there... it would have looked awful! Especially at that tempo. So instead we do breakaway.
Seeing as these two had very limited time to learn lindy hop, I'd say this is a case of the same thing.
You're right about their nomenclature. It's really not a lindy hop routine... it's a Charleston routine with some aerials. But at least this way lindy hop gets more publicity.

Oh el Capitan, how I admire your ability to repeatedly come up with this dross. I don't know how you do it, and then why to I watch and rewatch these things????
It's all about the off-camera flashing lights in this glittery funkfest! After hurting my neck for a while I saw the link for the squashed right-side-up version of the routine. Warning, may cause seizures. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qod3yGMEdco
Um, who thought - Hey we'll take an Elvis Presley song about Bossa Nova that's not at all a Bossa and make a swing number? This is strange.
0:10 - since when has the football player chestbump [repeatedly] been in anyone's stage vocabulary?
1:08 - remind me to work this into tandem-charleston so I can look like a dog in heat.

Here is the WORST example of "20s Swing" (I hope they're refering to their age, and not the decade) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ncdd5CO1Y4k

But they have put out some decent Lindy routines, so there are people there that know what they're doing.
Decent routine, but makes me sad they called it Lindy Hop and didn't have 1 swing out in it.
