So I don't want this topic to be cruel or making fun of anyone, but I wanted everyone to share any videos they come across online of people that dance to swing music, but what the're doing is something makes you wonder where they heck they learned to dance like they do . . . (i.e. unique…
...And yet not one swingout. Weird. They've got some stuff going on and it represents a really good effort even if they haven't heard of that Lindyhopping thing.
Ya know I worked for Cruise ships for two years. I'll have you know that that my friend is a vegas lounge show [but not far from a cruise cabaret]. I like the piano in the background while the music is clearly canned w/an audible click track.
I like how the teaching couple are in this video and the music gets all slow motion like "Oh nooooooo... Theeee Preeeeetzellll" follow's horror. Or in this one, aka, The Radio Flyer never ending move from hell.
Now where was Dorry's post about the Dunn effect?
oh wells. Just hope they don't ask you to dance man...
Keep 'em comin',

I don't know if this is totally fair to them. Not the best execution but I am sure they were inspired by something like this...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o5T8XauYhlU
They were just a little exaggerated.
I don't think so, unless they've never seen themselves dance. I mean, in Day at the Race's the dancers have a little bit of a bounce and some kicks, but it's no where near to the level that that couple is dancing. With Whitey's Lindy Hoppers, this was a performance, yet their dancing still fits with the flow of the dance . . . the other doesn't.

From what I can tell about the Ice Skating Swing was that there were a number of "partner dances" for ice. It was more about a synchronized partnering than looking like the actual dance; "steps" and "moves" and feel of the "dance" are nothing like what we do on the floor.
See "rhumba" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Bc-e-vTMtU&mode=related&search= for an example. Like the swing clip it looks nothing like it's dance counterpart.
actually, clogging has included partner dancing or been paired with square dancing since its inception. this video doesn't have anything to do with swing, but it doesn't claim to.

It has "swing" in the video description.
granted. but i'd venture to say that when a square dance caller or freestyle clogging caller says "swing your par'dner, 'round and 'round," it's got nothing to do with swing as we think of it in the lindy hop community.

but yeah, granted.
And I will change that 'venture to say' that always when a square dance (or related folk dance) caller says swing, it has absolutely nothing to do with swing dancing. When you 'swing' in those kinds of traditional dancing (square, contra, clogging, etc), it it is a move that is similar to what is often called a rhythm circle in lindy. You can see them doing some swings in the clip.

Actually yes. I know that when I was dancing in Indiana doing the Line-Charleston was a fun thing that was a part of most of the big yearly dances. But hey, they actually did the Madison too, so what do I know.

Yeah, you can also watch women have sex with barn animals but I don't want to see that either. Please god people, learn from a human being.

Welll, it's more lindy than most so-called swing, but yeah it's really just JigWalks and Charleston moves without a single swingout. Oh well...The comments have derided the guy that posted is so it's no big deal.
My fuel for the fire:Cowboy Charleston. Okay, it's just another country line dance with clear charleston influences, but the multi-cultural hodgepodge of watching it demonstrated by Winnie Yu from dancepooh.com [I kid you not] makes it really funny to watch. Well worth the bandwidth.
Keep up the good work cap'in

I just gotta say in defense (because that was me in the clip with chris)... this was immediately after the end of a class, when everyone was practicing, and the mother and her friends sat down back there and let her baby go free (and we didn't see because we were recording the class material). Not bad floorcraft-except on the part of the baby-, we were recording stuff we learned from the class and thus were staying in the same spot, it was a stupid mother who shouldn't have let the baby wander onto a competition and show practice floor. Honestly, would you have expected a baby to run into your foot, out of no where? (the baby was ok!). But still, I laugh my head off every time I see this clip!! so funny!
Ok, so to post a new clip:
This is 'jitterbug dancing'. hahahahaha.

Claims to be Rock n' Roll rather than "the Swing" but close enough. A leader playing the air drums with his left hand while leading:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YASiu4scKoY
That's really just poorly done rock & roll jive. It'd be nice if the lead would actually dance a little, though.
Update!
This routine has a little bit of everything from the Pretzel to Balboa. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0_P8DZMts18
I was just entertained this guy put a copyright watermark on his video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=55_kgD-Xmow
This looks to me like a bad show on a cruise line: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fHcxEJ-FCLo
Finally . . .
sigh
. . . these are the last people in the world who should be teaching swing dancing (and yes these videos appear to be "instructional" videos): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tVX8tUqeLLg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vNhn75IXCv0 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nAKs0yPUqBA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vdLi70LI2kY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=znG9y_HoNZo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8OJJ_huoykw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uMxhq-_OP_o http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=igQTjYgmM7M http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fqd78wIcB2A
Can they arrest people for fraud for this kind of thing?
...And yet not one swingout. Weird. They've got some stuff going on and it represents a really good effort even if they haven't heard of that Lindyhopping thing.
What is he doing? Wait a second, he's trademarking SOLO SWING! Up yours solo charleston junkies.

Sadly enough the High School I went to... this is what we have to put up with in KC. ;P http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k1FSk6qPjR0

As I said exaggerated, poorly executed...
I don't know.. It does lack musicality but then again so many do anyway.
I think they were just trying to be original in their dancing . . . and they pull that off, but it just doesn't look good.
I'm going to combine Swing and Clogging, I'm going to call it Swogging! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IPkB3nMp9Hw
Ok, it's final. I officially hate the song Candyman with a passion . . . http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PHuQqMYEhV4

and finally . . .
"The Swing" instructional video!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3tudMBRDC0M

wow... beware of the hip hop dancing near the end!!!

On the other hand, this satire on ice of the movie "strictly ballroom" is hilarious!

ok, i got it, there are new videos posted, can we move on?
Well I'll forgo my usual shot by shot commentary. Lots of choreographers interpretations of things that look like swing. Not much to say.

People dancing 'the lindy hop' (arthur murray style): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PEBw7oLzN7M
I like the part where they nearly backed in to the ballroom dancers.
Also, their posture was sloppy on the tandem Charleston, I think they need to stand up straighter.i
WAs there music? because all i could hear was: "clopclopclopclopclopclopclopCLOP!clopclopCLOP!clopclopclop....."
