I guess they were short of leaders. There's so much more to blues, though, and it can be such a fun, unerotic dance; I wish they had promoted that, instead of just the sexual stuff.

i'll be the first to admit that my expectations for college groups (particularly small liberal arts colleges [yes, i went to one]) are pretty low, but i kinda feel bad for Lucky and Lessa having their names used in conjunction with this title.

...not to mention Douglas Solomon's Quarter, who will be playing on Friday night, according to the Facebook Page.

I always hear stuff like this. But the fact of the matter is that the above people chose to be involved with the event and that it also features two of the more popular blues instructors (Mihai and Solomon) that I often see noted as "not creepy" by blues defenders.

Last time I saw Lessa social dancing she RAN up to a guy to dance with him because he threw his previous partner up against a pole and molested her. Lucky orchestrated the most grotesque and ludicrous contest I have ever wasted my money seeing; I am ashamed to even say that I was there.
I don't care what the name of the event is, I wouldn't take classes from either of them. This name looks like it's right in line with their "klassy" blues dancing.

They must have felt left out without ASSLX. It's a shame when an event with the potential to be good gets ruined by a stupid acronym and overzealous organizers.
Do you know how awkward it is to have a political argument with a naked man?

Seriously, I consider all three of them, Lucky, Lessa, and Mihai to be subpar dancers. It's just another example of the blues community celebrating mediocrity.

Could not agree more.
Swinginstyle, you may want to reconsider your post... it's quite inflammatory.

If it makes y'all feel any better, Austin's non-profit swing/lindy organization is called "ASS" -- The Austin Swing Syndicate. We've managed to hang around for long enough that the juvenality of the name has mostly worn off and is now generally ignored. I still think it's sorta funny, but then again, I'm 12 years old.

The old Southern saying is "lay down with dogs, get up with fleas" so if the blues/"blues" community wants to have a "fun" or "sexy" theme, it can hardly act all huffy and surprised when the overall market reacts unfavorably.
If the organizers are NOT going to get self-righteous about it, I'm actually kind of impressed and encouraging... i love truth in advertising. Let the customers know exactly what they are buying, and your market will find you.
However, to my mind, if i'm going to an erotic party, why would I waste time with all that dancing crap??

The difference is that Swing dance isn't associate with sleezy "blues dancing" stuff.
Swing is the most a-sexual dance I've ever seen besides clogging.

Subtle AND classy.
It took me a minute to get that. Why, oh why, did they have to name it that? Way to enhance the negative image!
Like a bad-fitting bra, I just can't support this.
Oh, and on its Facebook page, it's listed as "Type: Party - Erotic Party."
What the?
...and the tagline "Come bring your supporting hands!"

Seeing as this is a college event, I vote they call the non-student attendees "implants."

I hate "blues dancing."
And I hate "BOOBS" even more.
I thought the logo was especially Klassy:

I just sent out an e-mail to the organizers with my feelings on the matter.

Thanks Oberlin for adding accelerant to the fire.
Also, Lucky's bio says:
...which doesn't really set a different tone than this event.

not everyone celebrates medicracy. I for one am very very picky as to which events I'll attend.

This event is not representative of the blues community at large.
If you want to see what real blues dance events look like, check out Down Home BluesSHOUT, coming up in June.
