Sorry to clutter the board with more anti Sarah Palin rhetoric but here it goes. Gun toting hunting lady: I'm not in to hunting. I think it is kind of barbaric. That said I grew up where people hunt, and I eat meat. For the most part hunters learn to safely use and respect their guns and need licenses. As long as they hunt what is sustainable and abide by local laws I don't care.

Embracing the NRA ensuring that plenty of trigger happy whacko's can stock up an arsenal of assault weapons, that is another thing.

Going back to work three days after giving birth: If she has the strength to do it who am I to say it is wrong, or right. I don't think it was necessarily hasty , but I also don't think she deserves (commendation on this. Women for thousands of years have gone back to " work" soon after giving birth, whether is was taking care of their existing family and home or some other task such as farming. I don't women should be held up to one standard.

Knocked upped daughter It is not directly her " fault" , although one might speculate that teaching your child your belief in abstinence only might leave her unprepared. but that is just speculation.

What does bother me the hypocratcy and the spin of the child being a blessing. Teenagers should wait until marriage , unless they don't, and get knocked up and then it is a beautiful gift from god. That and pushing your teenager to wed.

" Choosing" to go ahead and have her baby knowing it had Downs syndrome.

Wasn't much of a choice for someone who is staunchly pro life. I would like to point out that there are plenty pro choice women who also have and love their special needs children. I also find it disturbing that she wants to take other women's choice away from them.

What REALLY bothers me: Book Banner: She decided that a public library needed to have books removed because of content that doesn't jibe with her extreme religious views, and then tried to fire the librarian who defended the publics right to decide what they may choose to read or not read. This woman who does not honor the constitution might be president?

She is a member of the Assembly of god: A candidates religion shouldn't matter, unless it does. This is one of those far right Christian fundamental religions that believe in the literal words of the bible rather than allowing moderate interpretation . Maybe if she takes her oath she will do it speaking in tongues.

What REALLY doesn't impress me: That she is a woman. Can we all just shut up and get past the non male or non whiteness of the candidates? We have seen women, and blacks for that matter in all sorts of leadership roles, from governors, speaker of the house, secretary of state, leaders of fortune 500 companies , Prime ministers and other world leaders. Just because we have not had a ( fill in the blank) president or vice president doesn't mean that we need to elect him/her. Believing in equality should mean choosing the best PERSON for the job based on their skills and experience. I would vote for any person who stands for what I believe in, white man, black woman, or a one legged , blind martian as long as they can do the job and best serve the people.

so much to be frightened of.........

Go Obama)

I know that where you went to college is not always a reflection on your level on intellgence, or for that matter, your readiness for public office. But this is ridiculous:

VP hopeful Palin attended 5 colleges in 6 years By NICHOLAS K. GERANIOS 4 days ago

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin attended five colleges in six years before graduating from the University of Idaho in 1987.

Federal privacy laws prohibit the schools from disclosing her grades, and none of the schools contacted by The Associated Press could say why she transferred. There was no indication any of them were contacted as part of the background investigation of Palin by presidential candidate John McCain's campaign.

"Our office was not contacted by anyone," said Tania Thompson, spokeswoman for the University of Idaho in Moscow.

Palin, the governor of Alaska, was born in Idaho. Her family moved when she was only a few months old to Alaska, where she was raised.

She began college at Hawaii Pacific University, a private, nonsectarian school in Honolulu. She attended only as a freshman during the fall of 1982, school spokeswoman Crystale Lopez said.

Then known as Sarah Louise Heath, she was in the business administration program as a full-time student, Lopez said.

"We're trying to track down someone who knew her," Lopez added.

From Hawaii Pacific, Palin transferred to North Idaho College, a two-year school in Coeur d'Alene, about 30 miles east of Spokane. She attended the college as a general studies major for two semesters, in spring 1983 and fall 1983, spokeswoman Stacy Hudson said.

"We were not able to track down club affiliations or anything," Hudson said.

The school identified one of her professors but he did not remember her, Hudson said.

Prior to her selection by McCain, the North Idaho College Alumni Association notified Palin in June she would be the recipient of its 2008-2009 Distinguished Alumni of the Year Award.

From North Idaho College, Palin transferred 70 miles south to the University of Idaho, the state's flagship institution. She majored in journalism with an emphasis in broadcast news. She attended Idaho, whose mascot is the Vandals, from fall 1984 to spring 1985.

She then returned to Alaska to attend Matanuska-Susitna College in Palmer in fall 1985.

Then she returned to Idaho, for spring 1986, fall 1986 and spring 1987, when she graduated. Despite her journalism degree, she does not appear to have worked for the college newspaper or campus television station, school officials said. She worked briefly as a sportscaster for KTUU in Anchorage after she graduated college.

The McCain campaign did not have an immediate comment on Palin's higher education record.

In a recent interview with the school's alumni magazine, before her selection to run on the GOP ticket, she explained that her curiosity and love of writing made journalism a natural choice.

"I was always asking everyone the questions, and I still am today," Palin told the magazine.

The University of Idaho is taking advantage of Palin's nomination. A prominent photograph of her is featured on the school's Web site.

...and once again, it's More Of The Same. Rove tried to orchestrate that same arguments of GWB: who cares if he was a C student at Yale...

...and a legacy admission, to boot...

...and if his professors were quietly horrified that he was snickering about the 'lower classes' going to Vietnam while he could pull easy duty in the National Guard...

...it didn't matter; GWB was actually Prince Hal, slacking and relaxing with Falstaffian friends until his Big Moment came.

Wrong!

And now, after 7-and-a-half years of fail, the Rove (or at least Rovian) campaign is running on the same theme all over again.

Quoted from "RubyMae in the MILF thread"
So where are the umpteen threads talking about what a hottie Obama is? Where are the celebrity look alike threads for McCain? For all the legitimate criticism that can be leveled against Sara Palin, the only thing the males on this board seem to feel is appropriate is to discuss her looks. Forget the racism, we're too busy with misogyny to be bothered.

Ok ok I'll drop my misogynistic crusade for one good non sexist tidbit.

Alaska passed a law in 2000 making it illegal for cities to charge rape victims the cost of collecting evidence. There was only one city in Alaska who engaged in the practice at that time. Want to take bets on which city and who the mayor was?

  1. Miss Behave: Do you have the correct facts on the books incident?

    http://explorations.chasrmartin.com/2008/09/06/palin-rumors/

See 40 et. seq., but feel free to read the entire list.

    1. Kerry's academic record was no more impressive than Bush's. Why isn't anyone critical of his record?

Gore was known as the "prince of Tennessee" when he was at Harvard. [Yes, I have a friend who was in the same class.]

PS: The baby boom started in 1946. The competition for college admission started going up dramatcially 18 years later when the baby boomers started applying to college. Kerry started Yale in 1962. Bush started in 1964.

  2. As best as I can figure the Presidents with the highest IQs over the last 100 years were: Wilson, Hoover, Nixon, Carter, and Clinton. Not my idea of a distinquished bunch.

  3. Ford, both Bushes, both Clintons, and Kerry have a degree from Yale. Is that enough to make you want to make a degree from Yale a requirement to run for President or an automatic disqualifier? I don't have a count as to how many Yalies are in Congress, but I am willing to accept "too many" as a response.

  4. Democrats have been calling Republicans stupid at least since Eisenhower ran for office. It is time to think of a more original insult.

  5. A modest proposal: If you believe that race, gender, and class should not be relevant, would you support having the federal government cut off all research money to universities that teach courses in race, gender, and class?

Because Kerry didn't sound stupid. Spoke like a wooden log, but at least he had the right number of syllables.

Neither. Your persuasive skills here give me pause.

It's not an insult, it's an attempt to explain the poor decision making, verbal gaffes and other mistakes. Often we call people stupid based on demonstrating stupid behavior. There are many Yehoodites who've been called stupid for this reason.

Wow. Yet another great "question" that really makes the point to your audience.

I tried to answer somewhat seriously but really how can I when the questions are not genuine.

Yeah, the question was rhetorical! Sure, I brought it up twice and tried to fire the biotch, but she was telling me I couldn't tell her which books go in the library! I was the Mayor! MAYOR, dammit! I had to test her loyalty, don't you get it? When I'm VP, don't you think it'll be important for me to have LOYALTY?

Carl Rove sez it's MUCHO important. Loyalty. And censorship. And secrecy. They're important, OK?

Jeez, who woulda thought the whole freakin' town would get so fired up over a freakin' librarian?

From her 2006 gov. debate.

"I'm pro-contraception, and I think kids who may not hear about it at home should hear about it in other avenues," she said during a debate in Juneau. Palin said she opposed "explicit" sex-ed programs, but considered other discussion of condoms to be "relatively benige".

I don't think she's a religious nut.

Sarah Palin, you sly little whore. Don't you think I know what you're trying to do, sweetie? Don't you think I can read between the lines in that little speech you gave in St Paul? I've seen you look at me from that little podium of yours. You can't fool the Sex Cannon, dear.

I don't blame you. If I had a dime for every woman that tried to get into my head, to explain why Sexy Rexy does what he does, I'd be a rich man. Of course, I'm already a rich man. So what does that tell you? Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to turn you on more. I can't seem to stop the sex from emanating out of my body and right into your fallopian tubes. Sorry about that. Women seem to think there's something deeper going on with me. Baby, that's only true below the belt. I'm not impregnable. You, on the other hand, are highly pregnable. And I shoot to score.

If you are going to bring up Agnew and Quayle, should we also bring up Carter, Dukakis, Gore, and Kerry?

As a Republican, there are many reasons you can insult (I presume you mean former President Jimmy) Carter and (former vice president Al) Gore -- but there's no way you can call them "stupid" with even one ounce of credibility. They may not use their brains in a way you approve, but they are wildly brilliant thinkers and truly visionary.

Dukakis and Kerry, I'll offer a bye as debatable.

But come on, man, though he may share your values, Quayle was a big dumb dummy.

Argue points with merit!

Former GOP senator calls Palin a 'cocky wacko' PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- Former Rhode Island Republican Sen. Lincoln Chafee has called vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin a "cocky wacko" and said her selection as John McCain's running mate has energized supporters of Democrat Barack Obama. Chafee left the Republican Party last year after losing his bid for re-election and now supports Obama. He told an audience Tuesday at the New America Foundation in Washington that the Alaska governor has revived a "lackluster McCain candidacy." "They've just thrown this firestorm, this tornado, into the whole presidential election," Chafee said in response to an audience member's question about whether the Obama campaign should worry about Palin's presence in the race. He said her speech at the Republican National Convention had the unintended effect of energizing Democrats and Obama supporters. "People were coming into my office, phone calls were flooding in, e-mails were coming in, 'I just sent money to Obama, I couldn't sleep last night' - from the left. To see this cocky wacko up there," Chafee said to laughter.

Whether or not republicans are dumber than democrats, it's clear that too much intelligence is a liability in a presidential candidate. I worry that this might be true in Obama's case.

Except Obama is so far from "nerdy". He is absolutely ridiculously smart. And sometimes he turns into a wonk. But he's a cool wonk. How long ago were we staring at pics of him in his bathing suit frolicking in the ocean...?

...

...

Sorry, I got distracted there for a second. My point is, he was the cool guy for most of this election process. He needs to get back to that. He's NOT John Kerry or Al Gore. Not at all.

Hopefully he can sidestep their ultimate failings. And while it's not looking great right now. It's not lost yet. There's no time, but there's a lot of time, too.

What scares me most about Palin:

She is grossly unprepared and unqualified to be VP. So much so, that the Republican's won't let her talk to the press in fear that it will reveal too much (Not to mention that the Republican's have the audacity to say that the national press has no need to ask her questions, that they are unimportant elitists with no significance to your every day person. Not to mention that the Republican's punished journalists for asking completely legitimate questions.) So much so that she didn't even know what the VP does, and thinks the national guard and the proximity of Alaska to Russia constitutes foreign policy experience.

That she is an evangelical christian, and that will effect her decision making process and agenda. Having 8 years of GWB making decisions based on what God told him to do was enough. Eight years of the evangelicals having more clout in the the policy of the US than they ever should was enough, and we see where that got us. Yet we will reward them with more?

That if Palin wins, then stupid, uneducated, religious fanatics win. That we will be moving further in the direction of the far right rather than moving towards the middle. That the worst type of cynical, manipulative and profoundly hypocritical politics will prevail, and shape the future tone of politics for the next few decades, if not longer.

Education is not everything, and I believe in the power of experience. But when we get to the place where having degrees from Columbian in International Relations, and graduating from Harvard Law school Magna Cum Laud while being President of the Harvard Law Review, makes you an out of touch elitist, but wearing 280,000 earings is considered in touch with the common person's experience. That at a time when the constitution is being tested over and over again, that having been a professor of constitutional law for eight years has no merit. When was the last time you have heard the press or the democrats laude Obama's academic achievement? Even when you consider that Palin switched colleges six times in six years, and graduated with a BA in Journalism, and preferred sports journalism. When McCain studied war games at Annapolis, and that is considered a first class education to prepare one for presidency.

It is not Palin per se. It is what these things say about our collective value system that really scares me. It is all so wrong...so very very wrong.
