Come on out tonight to the Frim Fram Jam where instructor Heather Flock will be teaching her Variations class! She'll teach two standard figures for social dancing and then give you a passel of variations to use with them. The lesson runs from 8PM to 9PM. Tell your friends, co-workers, and family!
All evening for your dancing pleasure, DJs Dhruv Bhargava and Greg Avakian will be spinning away on the wheels of plastic and aluminum from as far away as CT and PA! The cover's only $8 and $5 for students with ID. Club 412 is located at 412 Eighth Avenue at 31st Street, NYC, up on the 4th flr.
Heather's doing variations, not the Swing/Soul line dance?
And how can I miss Druv and Greg as DJs ... I will be there!! (Feels like forever since I was last on a dance floor ... look forward to dancing with you all!)
"Change your thoughts, and you change your world" - Norman Vincent Peale.
Quoted from "brooklynsweb" As always.. I'll be there unfashionably early. Maybe I'll even remember to charge my camera this time...
Unfashionably early is fine, but just remember, you have to wait on the studio side until 9:00 p.m. (unless you're also taking the lesson at 8:00 p.m.)
Good times as usual... but was it just me or was there much more Balboa/Charleston music played than Swing? Don't know any Balboa and only barely know Charleston... felt a bit left out.. but the music was really good! Time to take some lessons!
If you wish to join the dark side.. better work on your anchor.

I think anything in there that you would Bal to you could also do Lindy to as well -but of course opinions always vary. :) Druv played more Trad jazz sets than I -and stuck in some nice soul in his 2nd set.
I liked the way we complimented each other being very different, but not clashing...
Looking at my set now, I notice that I played a lot of stuff in the 140-150 BPM zone -so while I'm happy for the variety of styles/genres of music I played, I think I could have mixed tempos a bit more.
Am glad folks had fun - I really had a good time, and thanks to everyone for coming out despite the rain!
Next time y'all see me DJ at Fram, or elsewhere - do come up and see me with requests, or want to see a different flow to the set. I can be pretty accommodating!
Greg - was fun DJing with you. I have my lists saved, and shall put them up soon. Yes we definitely complimented each other and I liked your mixing up several styles. I did try to flow both in tempos, styles too.
Frim Fram? Oh hell yeah!
