Please come out to honor our friend. We willl have a memory book for you to write or draw in or you can write something before hand and I will paste it in. It will ultimately be sent to Debras family. There will be some CDs passed out in memory of Debra. Come hungry as there will be food and drink specials too. Eff is supplying us w/an amp, iPod, & mic so we can play tunes and say a few words if anyone should like to. Oh, also I'd like to do a group photo near the end for the family.
There will also be a showing of one of Debra's short movies or a montage of clips from them. And in her honor I will be taking donations to be dispersed to her favorite charities so look for the coffee can! I know it's hard times but whatever you can donate would be greatly appreciated!
PS If you can't make it and would still like to donate in her name or send something for the memory book please contact me before next Wed.

At c50s request, we found her synagogue and I made a call. The woman answering the phone had some information. As expected, the funeral was held as soon as possible, in the Jewish tradition. In this case, that means 1:30 p.m. today. It's at 91st and Amsterdam, if anyone is in the immediate neighborhood and wants to go right now.
Shivah, the 7-day period for mourning calls, begins immediately after (time undetermined) at the home of the Avitan family, at the Columbia Building, 275 W. 96th St., apartment 8-L. Tonight, calls will be received until 8:30 p.m., and Tuesday from 9 a.m.-8:30 p.m.
Because Deb was Orthodox and her synagogue is pretty traditional, I'm sure that the shivah will be traditionally observed. For those who may not be familiar with more-observant mourning practices, consider doing a little homework with etiquette, etc. This site is pretty traditional, if you'd like to check it out. It covers philosophy and practices for mourners and shivah callers.

Asher is planning a more friends-oriented/secular memorial for later in the week, but just in case anyone wanted this information, we wanted to share asap. I'll xpost in the other thread.

Thank you. I assume they will be sitting shivah through this Friday sundown, and then again Sat night after sunset or did they say otherwise?
BTW if anyone plans to go, take Amy's advice, please google what happens when you pay a shivah call to an orthodox family.
eg At this time of year afternoon prayers usually followed soon after by evening prayers can be said right around rush hour. So if you go around 5:30-6 or so, don't be surprised if the mourners are occupied in that, plus if they are, the crowd will be separated by gender.

Asher and I are going to the UWS one this evening, just after 7pm.
The one on Thursday is in NJ, IIRC. Do I have that right?
And just for clarity, Asher's event won't be this week (but I think you know that).
-Eff
Anyone know about a possible wake/memorial/whatever for Daniel?
-Eff
Time, date posted.
I'm there!
sorry- we have plans that whole afternoon and night that can't be cancelled.
Thanks Asher, I will be there although I doubt I will have much to say to anyone... it's just how it is...
I'll be there.
I'll be there, drink in hand, celebrating the life she had as she'd want us to.
Do you know how awkward it is to have a political argument with a naked man?
Yay it's Deb Day! :D
I'll be there.
I lost yr new email but I updated the dates. I misunderstood yr IM I thot you meant hold out going on the shivah call! DUH
I am going to try my darndest to be there. I have to rearrange a few things, but very much want to join you all. Thank you!
You betcha I'll be there.
Will try to send something...
been away too long
I am putting together a swing CD to distribute Sunday to attendees.
If you have a song you would like on it email the file to yehoodi gmail.com
I'll do my best to include it.
