Have you checked out the Google news timeline yet? It's one of the offerings in the new GoogleLabs, and of course, one of the first things I did was search for lindy hop :D
Sadly, I'm not finding any permalink capability yet, but the steps are simple.
1) Go to the Google news timeline
2) Type in "lindy hop" (with the quotes) into the search box.
3) Under the "show" option on the far left, select "Decade" (you can choose anything you like, but I thought this was particularly cool).
4) Click the GO button towards the right.
5) Slide to past decades either by dragging the page with your mouse or by clicking on the back arrow underneath "show."
Enjoy!

A different take on the definition of a Jitterbug..when I guess the phrase was just starting to be used.

" JITTERBUGS.
New Craze for Canberra
New York cabaret dances have raised! another type of nuisance-the Jit-
terbug. A jitterbug is a person who
stands in front of some crack dance
orchestra, making no attempt to
dance, but keeping time to the music
with his or her hands and possibly
swaying the body without moving the
feet. Sometimes they stand 20 or 30
deep in front of the dance band, makr
ing itlmost uncomfortable for dancers
on an already crowded floor.

Quoted from "Lowkey_Lindy_George" I didn't get this from Google, but here is a little something from Kansas City: July 10, 1931, making it clearly of "first generation" vintage.
I wonder: Who is this "Bennie Moten" of whom they speak?

Oh . . . . that guy <wink>
For a great 2009 version of Bennie Moten's top selling recording "South" (mentioned in your link) look up "Willie and the Wheel" released in February of this year. The only instrumental on this CD, it features the handy work of Ray Benson and Asleep at the Wheel (obviously), Paul Shaffer (Letterman) on piano, and Vince Gill (a highly regarded session player in Nashville long before stepping behind a microphone) taking a lead guitar break.
Thie story behind this CD, the last produced by Jerry Wexler (R&B Icon) is also pretty remarkable.

'Jitterbug' yielded more hits, especially post-war. I selected every paper available too.

I found this on Trucking:

If I remember correctly trucking involved balancing a tray on one's finger and it was done by waiters at a truck stop.
