It is with great regret that we inform you that legendary lindy hopper and inspiration to tens of thousands of dancers around the world Mr. Frankie Manning passed away peacefully early this morning. Donations in lieu of flowers should be made to "Frankie Manning Fund" in his honor: Frankie…

I really hope he gets a nice upright monument I'll be able to visit some day. Not sure if Woodlawn allows them... fewer and fewer places do these days.
Speaking of Woodlawn, it's also where Duke Ellington, Lionel Hampton, Coleman Hawkins, Illinois Jacquet, W.C. Handy, and Harold Nicholas are interred.

In Loving memory
Frankie Manning
May 26, 1914 - April 27, 2009
At our April 26th dance, we, the NYSDS celebrated our 24th Anniversary, and we were part of the BABBLE dance weekend and Frankie Manning was across the street at Lenox HIll hospital gracefully dying.
It was as if Frankie choreographed his whole life and his dying - he had come home, to NY, to the NYSDS, or as close as he could get, and he sent us his amazing energy and spirit of dance as we sent him our love and prayers and thanks. We dedicated the dance to him, had a moment of silence, and later all did the shim sham together for him. We all signed a card which I delivered to him after the dance that night. We all remembered the Cat Club with stories of Frankie, with Paul Cosantino, Greg Avakian, Dawn Hampton, and all the others who were with us from the early years, as well as with those who joined us recently.
We felt Frankie's presence as we celebrated our 24 years of dancing with Frankie, celebrating both the past, the present, and with BABBLE danced into the future. By dancing, we will pass Swing along to others who will keep Swing alive.
In Loving Memory of Frankie Manning and all the others who have reached the Grand Dance before him.

As far as t-shirts go, I am holding an event in Kansas City the first weekend in June that is a crossover lindy and west coast event as well as frankie memorial, with proceeds going to a donation to Lindy Hoppers Fund.
I'm working on t-shirt ideas, and would love to get something that we'd all wear as well as something fun, representative of Frankie's Spirit. I loved the t-shirts that were up earlier, but don't want to just steal the image.

It's gonna be a party!
I think they should b shirts that make people ask "Who was Frankie Manning?"
It would give us a chance to keep the spirit alive when we wore them out at Lindy Bombs.
I have two slogans in mind..
The best is a simple picture of the Savoy sign that has the words "Ask me about Happy Feet"
When they ask- we tell them about Frnakie and his friends.

Before people go nuts with all the tee-shirts, buttons, bumper stickers and other Frankie merchandise, I think we should let the family and his longtime partner get some time to grieve and then think about how they want his image used.
I know it's coming from a good place, but coming up with clothing and products about Frankie so close to his death can be received in different ways by others.

Agreed. Let it be, people. Let it be.
Thanks Rik, was thinking the same thing.
Do you know how awkward it is to have a political argument with a naked man?
We still miss you, Frankie.
I dance for you today.
