Saturday, August 8
Part I : KIP WORKSHOP
level: Intermediate/Advanced
1-3pm
This workshop will be a guided coaching session for the kip. The kip is a staple aerial of swing dance performances because it looks amazing, is easy to time to music, and it’s really fun to practice. There at least dozens of techniques, perhaps an entire science around just this particular aerial. Come learn all the tricks from some local NYC kip masters to kick start your own kip!
We will be discussing the punch and scoop entries, kip to tap, kip to side, kip to back, and the double or standing if the skill level merits.
Requirements:
• Wear pants that don’t require a belt. Belts can be really bad for the kip
• No dangling jewelry
• Wear very comfortable sneakers, running shoes work best.
• Come with a partner you feel comfortable with - swapping really isn’t a good idea.
• Girls, at least wear a long sleeved cotton T Shirt. If you have a slick unitard, wear that under your clothes to prevent kip-burn.
• Guys, wear a long sleeved cotton T-Shirt. (No unitards please!!)
Part II: Modifying Aerials
Level: Advanced
3-5pm
This workshop will focus on techniques for modifying aerials for an assortment of reasons such as:
• changing the way they look or are timed
• swapping platforms
• custom entries and exits
• timing with groups of people
• techniques for working with multiple, different, or new partners
The general examples used to instruct in this class will be related to Collegiate Shag, Balboa, and group choreography.
Prerequisites:
• A partner or small group you are familiar working with.
• Reasonable experience with introductory aerials or lifts.
Come with:
• Comfortable shoes and clothes to dance/perform in.
• Running shoes with no chrome just in case you are working on a new aerial.
Suggestion:
Brush up on your shag and balboa beforehand if you want to apply what you learn quickly.
Standard Pricing: Parts l* & ll: $35 each
Paid by Fri, Aug 7: “Two-for” $60
No Refunds. No Exchanges
Call us by Friday, August 7th at (212)807-0802 for discounted registration by phone with Mastercard, Visa or Discover or for more information.
