I am dressing up as The Perfect Woman for Halloween this year - curious what "The Perfect Woman" means to you...
I'll be wearing a business suit, with a baby on each hip, and lingerie and stilettos, and an apron - since The Perfect Woman of course looks good, is hot as hell, cooks and cleans, raises babies, is successful in business etc. (I'll be the caricature...).
More thoughts on this here - what it means to be "The Perfect Woman":
I am featured blogger here every Tuesday - over a million hits a year already and we are growing - please comment if you feel so inspired! (and sign up for the feed...) Will be writing more about being "the perfect woman," and just about living my dreams...
p.s. am I the only one crazy enough to think about this stuff? I consider myself to be a "Recovering Perfectionist" (am thinking of starting a national chapter with a 12-step program... )
I really am curious though about what people think of society's expectations of what it means to be "The Perfect Woman" and/or what expectations (ridiculous or not! mine for myself certainly have been!) you have absorbed or created for yourself....
Men please chip in here too if you dare  (what do YOU think this means... and do you think men hold women to impossible standards sometimes of physical perfection etc.?)
Quoted from "REDHOTnBLUE" I'll be wearing a business suit, with a baby on each hip, and lingerie and stilettos, and an apron - since The Perfect Woman of course looks good, is hot as hell, cooks and cleans, raises babies, is successful in business etc. (I'll be the caricature...).
The perfect woman is a good dancer. How you gonna be a good dancer with a baby on each hip?
Quoted from "RubyMae" I'm perfect. You probably meant 34EEE or 32EEE, with an 18 inch waist and 32 inch hips. Natural, of course.
Yes, there are a few different combinations that add up to perfect. I see 32EEE-18-32 on the list. But of course measurements don't account for quality, as that requires a more "hands on" assessment.
Quoted from "Swingville" The perfect woman is an illusory concept that sets men up for disappointment. There is no perfect woman, there is only the "right" woman.
That being said, your imaginary character should have multiple Ph.D's in astrophysics, microbiology, and information theory. Intelligence is sexy.
:disguise:
Agreed. I only have a Master's Degree from Harvard... sigh... so pathetic...
JUST KIDDING :D (I do have the degree and also know - finally GET it, d'oh! - that perfection is totally illusory...)
I would LOVE to have a PhD in microbiology someday. For now I am just dating a brilliant man who has HIS PhD in neuroscience (neurobiology specifically) so - close enough.
Quoted from "GuruReuben" She also has natural 36DD-24-36 measurements.

Naturally, natural...
I think it is about what Barbie's measurements would work out to if extrapolated, isn't it? Except I think the hips are more like 42 with an 18-inch waist. Does anyone have the stats on Barbie's measurements?

Hmmmm good point. Perhaps I will have to balance the babies on my head while dancing.
I assume you're referring to the "perfect woman through the eyes of an American?" Otherwise, you could get into some really interesting contradictions if you try to assess a universally accepted perfect woman.
Quoted from "pygmyswings" I assume you're referring to the "perfect woman through the eyes of an American?" Otherwise, you could get into some really interesting contradictions if you try to assess a universally accepted perfect woman.
Wow, yes, good point... Would be wildly curious to hear about "The Perfect Woman" in other cultures/countries too... any perspectives to share anyone???
Quoted from "westiegrrl" Barbie would be 5'9" 36-18-33 she would be under 17 body fat
Ah, just like the rest of us!
I'm so glad that little girls are raised with the expectation that we should look like THAT... ugh.
It's so crazy. Even models and movie stars themselves say THEY don't look like they do in magazine photo shoots, when they are airbrushed or body parts are altered (made more slender) through Photoshop.
Agreed. I only have a Master's Degree from Harvard... sigh... so pathetic...
JUST KIDDING :D (I do have the degree and also know - finally GET it, d'oh! - that perfection is totally illusory...)
There ya go. You got a graduation cap or something you can wear? It would go so nicely with the business suit/apron combo.
If you want the Barbie measurements, all you have to do is go back in time, and start wearing a corset when you were 12. (And maybe stuff your bra -- since I've never seen you full length, I wouldn't know about that.)

Great idea... will see if I can find my mortarboard or carry around a Harvard degree...
do not have to stuff the bra  would have to wear the corset. no living woman has an 18 inch waist... what is the smallest waist in Guinness??
The perfect woman is a person who is 100 at ease with who she is, whether a mother, careerist, a wife, or fashionista.
I met few women whose internal confidence is the same or greater than the external veneer so easily cracked by society's demands on feminine beauty and nowadays a successful career.
For some reason European women have an edge over American women over this.
Brilliant, without being snobby.
Tall, athletic, flexible, with just the right curves.
Funny, without needing to be the center of attention.
Great dancer.
Popular and loves to make friends.
Nice body, but more importantly knows how to make it look good.
Though I have to ask...

Where'd you get the idea that the perfect woman needs to have kids?

As an Indian American, yes, I can share a bit (mostly because I'm the rebel and do the exact opposite of the perfect Indian woman). Indian women are expected to be able to cook, clean and otherwise take care of "woman's work" in the household. They are expected to take care of the kids. They are also usually expected to quit their career (assuming they had one) once they get married. Indian women are generally considered to be subservient to their husbands, and while they are no longer considered property, there are enough patriarchic hold overs that they may as well be property. The more rural you get, the more ingrained some of these expectations are. After all, India is still the country of arranged marriages and self immolation.
(Sorry, my annoyance with some of the traditions came through more than I intended.)
Before you can discuss what makes a "perfect woman," you need to be a bit more clear about what you're asking.
The perfect woman for a particular guy?
The perfect woman for any guy (or even a large percentage of them)?
The perfect woman for herself?
The perfect woman for the world at large?
The answer to any of one these definitions (and probably a dozen others) is completely different than the answer to any of the others.
Where'd you get the idea that the perfect woman needs to have kids?
I guess that it just what I have absorbed as society's message (in the US) about the perfect woman - supermom, career woman, sexy, etc.
Perhaps it is just how/where I grew up... That was always the expectation.
This is all so subjective... "Perfect" doesn't exist... I'm interested to see what it means to different people. A woman having kids is just part of how I always viewed the "perfect woman." (Look at supermom Angelina with the six kids, etc...)

Hey Chiv what I had in mind is closest to the last question... So, the perfect woman by American societal standards, however you interpret that.
Of course "the perfect woman" for any one man is going to vary from man to man since everyone has different tastes (thank God!).
The perfect woman for herself is any woman just being the best she can be (so, me being the best Lisa, whatever that means to me).
Interestingly, I do think it's true that women sometimes hold ourselves, and each other, to even higher standards than men do, as someone pointed out...
The answer to this question couldn't be simpler. You are all perfect, each in your own way. If I had intended you to be perfect in exactly the same way, I would have made you into ants instead.
Though now that I think of it, getting a pedicure on six feet would be a magnificent way to pass the day. 8)
