Nearing the very end of its whirlwind three-week-long tour of the East Coast, the Solomon Douglas Swingtet (a ten-piece orchestra playing the best swinging jazz of the 30s, 40s, and 50s) makes an appearance at Session 73 (NOT Samalita's) in Manhattan.
Doors open at 9pm. Band plays 'til 1am.
Cost will be $18, $15 students

I live nearby and will likely swing by as I wrap up the semester that night.
There's a former mob spot named Copperfield's at 74th and York (NE corner) that I highly recommend for "pre/game". 30 stellar draughts on tap and great spicy wings.
Dig the selection: http://davidcopperfields.com/ontap.html
On Cask (unfiltered and unpasteurised): Flying Dog Gonzo Imperial porter available!
Stone's 13th Anniversary ale...Southern Tier Iniquity...Goose Island Bourbon Country Stout...Stone Old Guardian from '07...on draught.

Thanks for posting that. I was wondering about the dance space there. If I don't head up to Vermont on Tuesday night for some early season skiing (I have Wednesday and Thursday off.) I will try my best to be there. I really love this band.

This will be my first time dancing in NYC, but my fourth time seeing the Solomon Douglas Swingtet on the Black Friday Tour...I am particularly attached to his trombone player from Durham, NC. ;)
This incarnation of the Swingtet is phenomenal and I can't tell you how excited I am about dancing to them for the fourth time!

Tiled floor. 97 sure but I will confirm tomorrow AM as it's a block from my job.
WHEN IS THIS!?! Glaser's is directly across the street. Best black and white in NYC. The Seinfeld B&W!

I added the date and time above (from the Facebook page).
OK, tiled floor fine, but my question is how much SPACE is there usually -- room for 3 couples or 5 couples or 10 couples or what?
Thanks
Hey everyone -
This dance (Tues. Dec. 8) will now be held at Session 73 instead of at Samalita's. Please make a note of the change. We'll see you there!
The band is totally cooking. You can hear a clip here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kLzAFG9O8Po
See you in a few days,
Solomon
Where the HELL is Session 73?

Hey Eff, you should check out this amazing new thing called "Google Maps". :)
It's on the southwest corner of 73rd and 1st.

I'll be there! Session 73 has a nice wood floor and with a decent sized dance space. Can't wait!
