I'm sure many of you had a good time at Jack's tonight... despite the crowd. But, the crowd and the great band and music aren't the reason why our scene is alive.,

I wanted to point out something about the birthday jam that night. I didn't know any of the people in that jam. And that made me really happy. Here were a bunch of people (who had been dancing 6-12 months?) who knew each other and were celebrating as a group of friends. It was a new swing generation.,

Now I go out all the time and everytime I meet someone new. But, this was the first time I had seen a whole group in a while. That group of friends is what kept me going back in '98.,

Anyway, I got sidetracked by my many concerns that night, but next time I want to meet these people. Especially Vonda (?) who celebrated her birthday that night. In four years, when all you guys get married and quit dancing... I'm going to be stuck with them all like Fiftynites is stuck with us.

Anyway, new people = living swing scene.,

I meet individual new people all the time, but seeing a group 'organized' like that... like the way we were a few years ago, really made my night. Thanks.

Wait...Larry, I thought YOU were getting married, now...or is Eli right, is the "I surrender" thread just another one of your ploys to get chicks? ,

Oh I'll get married. But, I'll still go out. ,

As for "ploys" : wait til you see the next one. But, yes, my posts are all pretty sincere unless I use the emoticon.

I challenge anyone to figure out what the crazy TMI thread (i.e. so called "ploys to get women") will be about.,

It shouldn't be too hard.

Larry, her name is Valda.,

As for the group, they've been around for at least a year, but apart from me (and 1 or 2 others), don't really have any connection to Yehoodi or the other silly parts of the scene we all know and love (though I suspect that's about to change).,

The real credit for the group goes to John Knapp and Meredith Stead, the owners of the former Shall We Dance studio. Although it didn't take off financially, they managed to create a great place with a real sense of community. Nearly a year after it closed, most of the people have gone to various other studios, but still stuck together socially.,

It just shows that as much as we all sometimes think we know, there's always so much going on around us we have no idea of. Of course, given your uh... lifestlye lately, that probably goes double for you.,

Wow, our little swing group ventures beyond the rhelms of the eGroup. Didn't know y'all were on yehoodi as well.,

Yep, the swing scene is definitely alive and kicking. It's something I've always felt ever since I started dancing a year ago... I never felt it was dying, which is why I was surprised to pop on yehoodi for the first time and see all the posts ringing the death bells for the scene. ,

Anyone who was at Jack's the other night can tell you the swing scene is definitely not dying - though perhaps it's evolving.,

zoot little is too modest to admit he set up the shall we dance egroup and keeps us going. one thing i love about the scene is that most people aren't snobs and when there are just a few of us uncoupled, as was the case Wednesday under the palms at WFC, people are friendly; lisa may ted david charles...new names to me but not new faces.

There are over 800 people on my swing list... and I keep meeting people who have never heard of Yehoodi.,

I look forward to meeting you in person soon... Valda et. al. I wonder if there are any other swing generations out there that have survived and prospered? It used to be a new generation every 3-6 months. The closest I've seen has been the groups that come from Hop, Swing and a Jump.

Shall We Dance is alive and well. John Knapp and Meredith Stead are wonderful, versatile, talented dance teachers. They were forced to close the large studio on Church St. but they very much continue to teach in their very nice and still large studio at 137 Duane St. [http://www.shall-we-dance.com] They focus more on privates now but they are great.

Actually, I have to credit Erica and the pants she was wearing last night (ahem)at Lansky's with helping to "keep the scene alive"... so to speak.

Zoot Little, that's an excellent reference!!!,
I can't believe I haven't thought of that myself.,

Leisure Suit Larry has got to be Larry's role model.,

Following Larry's dating life, we can create a game of our own.,

Larry, you need some Leisure Suit Larry T-shirts, man,

I must say, this whole thread just brings a tear to my eye. It's like all my kids are finally spreading their wings and leaving the next. Even the mighty Mafa. (haven't had the pleasure of meeting Lord McQ yet, but thanks for the clarification concerning Lord Knapp and Lady Stead),

Since you are going to become embroiled in our odd little world here, I figured I should give you some tips:,
,
We don't need any more lounger vs. dancer, track pants vs. suits, hollywood vs. savoy, or similar type threads.,

It's ok to giggle everytime you see "Hardcore Hep-Cat Swinger" on your desktop.,

Get used to your co-workers giggling everytime they see "Hardcore Hep-Cat Swinger" on your desktop.,

It's still ok to make fun of Dennis Rodman (as he likes to call himself here).,

-Chiv,

P.S. ZL, just be happy I wasn't talking about this lifestyle:,

I recently discovered that the Leisure Suit Larry theme music is 100% swingable - especially the theme for the 7th game.,
