"...so where yall from?"
People always say to me, "Manu, you should have been a stand-up comedian!" Well, stand-up comedy is hard. It's really hard. I find most air-steps easier than doing 3 minutes in front of a microphone and a tough crowd. But I digress...
Back in 1999 at the Ithaca Lindy Exchange, the Minnie's Moochers Lindy Hop team had to do a couple of costume changes between routines. They asked me to stall for them while they changed.
Moochers: Manu, can you talk about stuff while we change between routines?
Manu: Um…well...what do you want me to do?
Moochers: You know...be funny.
Manu: Ah, got it.
Thus, my career as a master of ceremonies was born.
Send me a note if you'd like a handsome, funny young black man to stall...er...I mean talk to your audience between the actual entertainments. I'll see if I can find someone who fits that description. Or maybe I'll take the gig.
Here are some events where I made a few inappropriate remarks in front of hundreds of people:
Ithaca Lindy Exchange, NY
Frankie Birthday Cruise, on a big boat
Herrang Dance Camp, Sweden
Harlem Jazz Dance Festival, NY
Melbourne Lindy Exchange, Austalia
Boston Tea Party, MA
