Frankie Foundation Announces Fund to Support Lindy Hop Artists
/Around the world, professional lindy hop instructors and performers have been hard hit in this time of the coronavirus outbreak. With most swing events cancelled, their main source of income is gone. Fortunately the community has been working on ways to support these dedicated artists in this time.
This week the Frankie Manning Foundation announced a new fund to help lindy hop professionals through this time. Here’s there announcement:
The Frankie Manning Foundation is preparing to launch an EMERGENCY SUPPORT PROGRAM in the coming days. Support will be made available for full-time Lindy Hop professionals who show pressing financial need and who demonstrate a commitment to preserving and passing on the legacy of the Lindy Hop that originated in the Savoy Ballroom in Harlem.
Applicants may apply for $750 in funding. To be eligible to receive funds, you must meet the following criteria:
Applicant should demonstrate a commitment to preserving and passing on the legacy of the Lindy Hop that originated in the Savoy Ballroom in Harlem.
90% or more of income must be derived from Lindy Hop related work
Applicant must have experienced a loss of 90% or more of income as the direct result of COVID-19 cancellations for the months of March, April, and May 2020
Applicant must be in pressing need of assistance to cover important expenses such as food, rent, medical bills, childcare, and other necessities.
